Adedayo Bamgbose: Why do I have a feeling Mercedes will use Bottas to slow Vettel down?

David NicholsonHirst‏: Ferrari should sack their strategy guy, my gran could see a pit stop was required.

Nathan Marzan: Great strategy from mercedes. Effectively given hamilton a free pit stop. Ferrari too scared to try anything different

Why is Vettel always spinning when he's on the inside in these conditions?

In Monza he was on the inside of Hamilton and he spun, Hamilton recovered. In Japan - Verstappen on the outside managed to recover, while Vettel spun.

Here with Ricciardo, the same thing. Why is Vettel always spinning?

I think he's so cautious to avoid major contact that he spins his own car out and it's just killing his races.

    Lap 17/56

Hamilton is only two seconds behind Kimi Raikkonen, who will be coming into the pits soon. Valtteri Bottas is third, primed to be in blocker mode to help his team-mate. Max Verstappen is fourth, with Sebastian Vettel needing to produce some absolute magic to keep this title race going one more week. He is fifth, but only a second-place finish is probably going to be good enough

That virtual safety car was Ferrari's chance to bring in Raikkonen. They missed the opportunity. Mercedes were on the ball, they brought in Hamilton, for basically a free pitstop, and that has given him an iron-like grip on this race.

We are back under way, and, as expected, Valtteri Bottas moves aside to let Hamilton through into second. Hamilton, in effect, holds a massive lead in this race with him having stopped already, and Raikkonen having to come in again.

Vettel is fifth and needs to get up to second to deny Hamilton, if the Englishman wins it.

Don't hold up Lewis Hamilton, Valtteri Bottas is told. Hamilton on the softs, Raikkonen, in the lead, but on some ultrasofts and it seems Ferrari have missed an open goal there. Those Raikkonen tyres will not last much longer.

A free pitstop for Lewis Hamilton. He dives in for the pits, that may well be his only stop of the race.

Is that the stop that wins Hamilton the world title. He comes back in third, behind Bottas, who will surely move over as he has done before this season.

No pit stop for Kimi Raikkonen. A huge error from Ferrari? It wouldn't be the first time a race has been won and lost under a safety car or virtual safety car.

Daniel Ricciardo has pulled over on the exit of turn 11.

He is out of the race, and by the time we got to hear his on board, it didn't sound like there was any power in his engine there.

He had six seconds back to his team-mate Verstappen, but is now out of his car.

That moves Sebastian Vettel up to seventh.

The Red Bull man is absolutely distraught as he gets out of the car. That is his fifth retirement in 10 races, and seventh of the season. Your heart goes out to him.
