On any other day we would be highlighting Max Verstappen's brilliance. Down in 18th at the start after a five-place grid penalty for a gearbox change after his car fell apart in qualifying when he went over a kerb.

The Dutchman is now third, climbing 15 places up the field. Great stuff.

Sebastian Vettel comes into the pits at the lap 27 mark. A problem with the right rear is not what he needs, another second thrown away.

He comes back out in fifth, he needs to get up to second or hope Kimi Raikkonen can get to Lewis Hamilton.

    Yellow soft tyres for Valtteri.

Mercedes engineers came out when Kimi came in to pit, why? We don't know, it could have added a tiny bit more time to Raikkonen's pit stop.

Kimi Raikkonen gets ahead of Sebastian Vettel, who has to move over as the Finn is on the fresher tyres. Vettel's title hopes are probably dependent on his team-mate hunting down Hamilton and the Mercedes man not being able to manage his tyres until the end of this race.

Bottas into the pits, now Vettel is second, behind Hamilton. If it stays that way the title race is extended, but Vettel has to pit, Hamilton in the front does not.

A safety car now, and a free pit stop for Vettel would make things very interesting, though.

A moment of pride for Kimi Raikkonen, who holds off the challenge of Lewis Hamilton and does not let the Briton pass him on the track.

But Raikkonen has to come into the pits, so Hamilton now has the race lead.

Raikkonen is told "great job, great job" after holding up Hamilton for a bit, but the world champion, probably soon to be world champion again, now has a clear track in front of him to pull away, while Valtteri Bottas, now second, can block off those behind him.

    • Hamilton, as it stands is going to be the world champion.

    • Verstappen recovers from last, in fourth.
    • Alonso, Grosjean, and Ricciardo retire.
    • Lance Stroll received a drive-through penalty, for collision with Alonso.

Remember Hamilton is on the softs, and has been since lap 12, while Kimi Raikkonen is on the ultrasofts he started with, and hardly any grip. It is just a matter of time before Hamilton gets the on-track lead.

Maurizio Arrivabene has disappeared from the pit wall. He's usually there, just standing as that's what he likes to do. He doesn't even bring a chair, just stands...

Maybe he's gone to investigate how to salvage this race.

Hamilton is on the tail of Raikkonen. He may overtake him on the track, and not even via a pitstop. That Ferrari decision to not pit Raikkonen under that virtual safety car is looking worse and worse as every lap goes on.
