Of course Sir Jackie Stewart is at Silverstone, wearing a tartan cap and tartan trousers. Obviously.

Stewart, who turned 80 last month, won the British Grand Prix twice - in 1969 and then again at Silverstone two years later. In the second picture from last night he is pictured with the Duke of Kent. Racing royalty with, er, royalty royalty.

    BBC News

As a child, Lewis Hamilton travelled the country with his dad to go kart racing.

Every weekend was dominated by racing, with his family putting in every penny they could to help him reach the top.

    Those pennies certainly paid off.

With six wins already this season, 2019 is shaping up to be his best year ever - quite an achievement when you've already won five world titles.

And as he comes home for the 2019 British Grand Prix, Lewis has told Radio 1 Newsbeat that self-belief has helped turn his dreams into reality.

  14. More on Robert Kubicapublished at 14:00 British Summer Time 13 July 2019

“As far as I’m concerned there are no frustrations, certainly from our side. I’m sure he has a level of frustration because he doesn’t have the equipment that he would like at the moment. There is no thought about replacing Robert at all during this season. Absolutely not.”

As for 2020, Williams said no decisions had been made yet. Meanwhile, Williams also rejected claims that Kubica was somehow being short-changed on equipment compared to Russell this season.

“There is absolutely no difference between George and Robert's cars,” she said. “We don’t have the budget to create two different types of race cars, so this speculation is just crazy. We do everything to make sure that both George and Robert have the same equipment and the same test items as every weekend, so that we can to give them the best opportunity for Saturday and Sunday.”

Robert Kubica’s comeback to Formula 1 with Williams after eight years out following his horrifying rally accident was one of the stories of the winter, but so far it is all turning out to be a little sad. The Pole is 9-0 down on team-mate George Russell in qualifying and is generally being out-paced in the races, too.

All manner of speculation has arisen as to whether his future in the team this year is under threat, and this weekend deputy team principal Claire Williams has been moved to reaffirm her commitment to the Pole.

“Our relationship with Robert is as strong as it was,” she said. “He is getting his head down, doing what he needs to do and we're trying to do everything that we can to give him a better car so that he can perform at the level that he wants to."

  16. Out out!published at 13:56 British Summer Time 13 July 2019

    Michael Emons
    BBC Sport at Silverstone

The place no-one wants to be - out of the race with your car on the sidelines unable to get going again.

That’s what happened to 23-year-old Briton Raoul Hyman, driving for the Sauber Junior Team, in the opening race of Saturday’s action in the FIA Formula 3 Championship.

Hyman was unhurt after losing it at Copse and going into the tyres with his car covered by an advertising hoarding. The car was then lifted away on a crane, pushed by some marshals and then put on to the recovery truck. Estonian Juri Vips, a Red Bull junior, won it for the Hitech Grand Prix Team.

It's not quite camping in Cornwall, but it's certainly more interesting.

This was tipped as a track Mercedes would be strong at. But Valtteri Bottas' top practice time has been smashed by Ferrari.

Pierre Gasly, is also another one to keep a close eye on in this practice session as he's been quicker than Max Verstappen in all sessions so far.
