Temperature is toasty warm and there’s genuine anticipation ahead of qualifying. Leclerc looks super-quick, Vettel never can be discounted. And then there’s the Mercs - Hamilton, of course, and Bottas with a point to prove. Should be tasty.

Your thoughts on a potential London GP? Could there be two F1 races held in Britain?

Craig: A race in London is a terrible idea. Why take away a historical temple of motor racing and replace it with a bland street circuit in a city with horrendous traffic at the best of times. Remember the traffic chaos in France last year, yeah imagine that but even worse.

Harry Craig: We don’t want a London GP. We want Silverstone. Why’s that so hard to understand FIA and F1?

Bob: Another street circuit is exactly not what F1 needs. I can understand the attraction from a profit point of view and attracting casual F1 fans but Silverstone is a fantastic track that always delivers a great race that long term fans love. It would be detrimental to loose it.

Eight races gone and Lewis Hamilton's lead is already a commanding 36 points over team-mate Valtteri Bottas. Sebastian Vettel is a further 40 points adrift. All of the drivers picked up a point in 2018, but this year the bottom three are still all stuck on zero.

A birthday cake has been made for Nicholas Latifi, who turns 24 today.

The Canadian, who is a reserve and test driver for Williams, is currently second in the Formula 2 Championship.

The top three drivers in F2 in 2018 - Russell, Norris and Albon - are all now in F1 and with Williams struggling every day, Latifi could be getting his chance at the top stage sooner rather than later.

Your thoughts on a potential London GP? Could there be two F1 races held in Britain?

Matt: London once again taking all the sporting events for themselves and not thinking of the spectacle for the fans.

Jennifer Harris: A street race in London? No way? The cost of accommodation alone would make it prohibitative for most so it would end up with crowds only on Sunday.

Stoo G: I would suggest a return for the Birmingham Superprix, now as an F1 event, but you'll probably need to wait for all the road works to be finished. So some time around 2050 seems feasible

Thanks for the suggestion Stoo. A quick search through the BBC archives has brought up this video of footage from when the Super Prix event was held in Birmingham between 1986 and 1990. This is from a year ago and the 2019 race appears to have not got off the ground after all, but it's nice to watch all the same.

Three for Hamilton, three for Bottas, one apiece for Leclerc and Vettel. No joy for any teams other than Mercedes and Ferrari.

Adam Adshead: Keep Silverstone, forget a capital-centric London GP and bring back F1 to terrestrial TV to increase viewers (so we can ALL enjoy it live!)

Paul Baker: the guys running F1 need to listen to its fans who fork out lots of money to attend their races. That's why the British Grand Prix MUST stay

Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc put in an impressive performance to set the pace by a comfortable margin in final practice at the Austrian Grand Prix.

The 21-year-old was 0.143 seconds clear of Lewis Hamilton’s Mercedes, with the second Mercedes and Ferrari of Valtteri Bottas and Sebastian Vettel next.

Vettel was 0.263secs off his team-mate and appeared to have work to do to get on terms for qualifying at 1400 BST. Red Bull’s Max Verstappen was fifth quickest, 0.459secs off the pace.

Leclerc was the pace-setter throughout the session, both earlier on with heavier fuel and again with low fuel. The Monegasque was also fastest in second practice on Friday, in which both Bottas and Verstappen crashed and Vettel nearly did, but got away with a massive spin.

Conditions are marginally cooler and significantly less demanding than in the heat and strong, gusting wind that contributed to so many problems on Friday.

McLaren continued their impressive progress with Lando Norris sixth - 0.999secs off the pace, but ahead of the second Red Bull of Pierre Gasly - and Carlos Sainz in eighth. The Spaniard will start from the back because of an engine penalty.

  17. The penalty countpublished at 12:09 British Summer Time 29 June 2019

So that brings up the penalties at this race to four drivers.

Sainz and Albon will start at the back because of power unit changes, a new engine for Hulkenberg and that's five places for him, and now Magnussen's new gearbox costs him five places.

Remember, this is only race nine of 21. By the end of the season we'll have half the grid penalised.
