Antonio Giovinazzi is risking danger. The yellow sausage kerbs ripped up the front wings of Nico Hulkenberg and Lance Stroll among others yesterday. Giovinazzi goes over the kerbs but gets away with it. Not one to keep repeating though.

"The changes we made were not good," says Max Verstappen. He looks a bit off the Mercedes and Ferraris, but well clear of everyone else. Pierre Gasly needs a good weekend, he doesn't need to be slower than the McLaren of Lando Norris.

Charles Leclerc, robbed of a win in Bahrain when his engine let him down with 10 laps to go after starting on pole, is again enhancing his reputation today.

He goes quicker with a 1:03.987, our first man under one minute four seconds this weekend. Can Leclerc nab the second pole position of his career later on today?

  8. Drivers are taking riskspublished at 11:48 British Summer Time 29 June 2019

    Jolyon Palmer
Former Renault driver on BBC Radio 5 live

The top drivers are risking it, as they did yesterday when they didn't get away with it, but right now they're not putting it in the wall. They're playing dare with the kerbs.

    I'm excited! Quelle surprise...

Your thoughts on a potential London GP? Could there be two F1 races held in Britain?

David Myers: Everything in the country is London centric. I don't like the idea of another London event or another street race.

Pauk Rossetto: This is why F1 is in the state it’s in. Silverstone is a temple to motor racing, and like everything else that made F1 great, it gets treated like garbage every year.

Stuart Mills: Must protect the races at classic European tracks - Silverstone, Spa, Monza - there is a reason they have endured for so long. Consistently great races! Street races come and go as they get found out all too soon, Singapore the only exception! Stu by the pool in Mallorca

Don't rub it in Stu! Enjoy the sun...

But just as everyone is going quicker, Charles Leclerc, still hunting out his first race win, returns to the top thanks to a 1:04.120.

Ferrari, Mercedes, Ferrari, Red Bull, Mercedes. This is all looking encouraging for a hugely competitive qualifying session later on.

Some movement at the top. Valtteri Bottas with a 1:04.221, that's five hundredths quicker than Charles Leclerc. Fine margins.

  15. Gasly back outpublished at 11:43 British Summer Time 29 June 2019

Pierre Gasly on team radio: "Feels quite slow again out of turn three."

The Red Bull driver is back out there after those earlier power problems but still doesn't seem happy. His engineer, however, tells him they are happy to continue.

As always, George Russell is second from last of all those that have set times with Robert Kubica last. No sign of Williams' fortunes improving this week.

    Still, the scenery is nice.

Your thoughts on a potential London GP? Could there be two F1 races held in Britain?

Steve Trendall: A London Street race around the Royal Docks would be an awful idea / race. Knowing the area well I just can’t picture a decent track layout. With all the money pouring into Docklands it would be a rich man’s play thing and go against the dedicated British petrol heads.

Joel Benedict: If Silverstone wasn’t obscenely expensive, a London GP wouldn’t be so scary to the Silverstone organisers. They know that they overcharge and the risk of adding an alternative (potentially cheaper) option is what’s scaring them.
