    Gavin Button: Ferraris are over 1 second slower than Mercedes, big gap on any track but on a 63 second circuit that is enormous.

    Sho: New season but same old story, the Mercedes just destroying everyone.

    Just looking at some of the stats, Vettel was 19th fastest looking at the speed on the straights. That's some fall away for Ferrari from this time last year.

    After the first laps, Valtteri Bottas is on provisional pole with a 1:02.939, that is 0.122 faster than Hamilton. They are the top two. Then Verstappen, Albon, Sainz, Perez, Leclerc so far.

    Verstappen got through with his time on the mediums, so that will be what he starts on tomorrow with everyone else in the top 10 on the softs. That could be a move of tactical genius from Red Bull. Great effort from the Dutchman.

    Wow! Vettel is out. He did two laps that were consistently quick and looked to have hooked the sectors up but they weren't quick compared to the McLarens, the Racing Points...just anyone in the top ten!
