  2. Max Verstappen has split the Mercedes and is Q2-bound.

  3. With eight minutes to go the bottom five consists of Latifi, Magnussen, Grosjean, Giovinazzi, Norris.

  4. Lando Norris made a mess of his first lap, going wide and he's last by miles. George Russell currently 14th and heading into Q2 as things stand.

  5. Sebastian Vettel's first effort is slower than both Alpha Tauris and the Racing Point of Nico Hulkenberg so work for Vettel to do.

  6. Lewis Hamilton to the top, but instantly beaten by Valtteri Bottas. Charles Leclerc third, Lance Stroll fourth and they're all in good shape.

    Q1 is under way, 18 minutes, everyone takes part with the slowest five left moaning about their car, the weather, the other drivers and generally making all sorts of excuses while everyone else advances into Q2.

    Jamie Constable: Just moving into a new house - in between unpacking and entertaining my 3 year old daughter I’ve managed to sneak an hour to watch the qualy! My prediction: Hamilton on pole for sure - both Ferraris out in Q1.

  12. Another record-breaking weekend for Hamilton?

    Can Hamilton make it seven wins at Silverstone and create another piece of Formula 1 history by becoming the driver with the most victories in his home race?

    It would help if he gets himself on to pole, which would be the sixth time in eight years if he does so.

    Favourite British GP memories & qualifying predictions

    Kevin Prior: Favourite British GP moment for me was 2008. Hamilton was absolutely dominant in the wet. Barrichello taking 3rd in an under powered Honda made it even better.

    Kayleigh: Dreamed VB would be on pole, so going with him. Max P2, Ham P3. Hulk to out do Stroll, Norris to out qualify Ferrari.

    But McLaren go even further with the boxing theme as Carlos Sainz has laced up the gloves and has been getting in some combination work.

    What of Williams this weekend? After struggling in all of 2019, both of their drivers made it into Q2 at the Hungarian Grand Prix, but could not build on that in the actual race.

    Your hopes and predictions for qualifying

    Philip West: Hamilton will pull a couple of tenths out of the bag, Bottas will have no answer to his pace, and pole will be Hamilton’s. That’s how qualifying will go.

    Stephen Lynch: My thoughts for qualifying is a Mercedes front row lock out with Hamilton on pole. Another prediction is Norris to be on second row.

  19. Any indication into qualifying from FP3?

    These were the times from the third session earlier today.

    Valtteri Bottas is currently on 12 pole positions, Lewis Hamilton 90 and Max Verstappen two.
