    Breaking

Some late tyre scares for Lewis Hamilton, but he takes the victory - that's win number 89 for him - two short of Michael Schumacher's record of 91.

Valtteri Bottas starts and finishes second, Max Verstappen remained third, Daniel Ricciardo fourth and very late on Esteban Ocon got ahead of Alexander Albon for fifth.

Daniel Ricciardo grabs the bonus point for the fastest lap. He did it on the last lap. Well played.

BeanyTony: I Just hope for punctures in each race to keep me interested in F1,sad times.

Jeremiah: One processional race where the top 6 have not dropped or gained a position!

Hamilton can't pit because Verstappen is close enough to ensure Mercedes can't have a free pit to get to the end of the race. Everyone has to go to the end of the race on what they have got.

Hamilton looks to have this one. Unless there's something strange, this could well be a routine finish to this race, with the starting six the top six. Three laps to go.

Oh, hang on, Ocon is attacking Albon for fifth place.

  6. Postpublished at Lap 40/44

The top six is as it was at 14:10 BST. That's Hamilton, Bottas, Verstappen, Ricciardo, Albon, Ocon.

Seen worse races though. Remember, at about this point in the British Grand Prix I said nothing exciting was going to happen then came the most dramatic finale of the season. So don't go anywhere.

McLaren race engineer: "Lando, on the previous lap we had a warning about..."

Lando Norris: "I DON'T CARE ABOUT... Oh, ok... but I don't care about the guys behind"

Lando initially thought he was being updated about the drivers behind him but was actually being told about a warning he had received for exceeding track limits.

Ferraris down in 15th and 13th place

Tom Ruzyllo: Carlos Sainz is the only person in existence who will have a worse 2021 than 2020.

Philip West: Mattia Binotto would’ve been out of his depth as team principal of Forti, Minardi, or Caterham. The fact that he somehow leads F1’s oldest and most prestigious team is nothing short of a disgrace.

Andy Mace: I feel sorry for Carlos Sainz. Looks like another Alonso team move to me.

Still no sign of any rain. If it is going to happen, it needs to happen soon.

  10. Postpublished at Lap 37/44

Norris up the inside at Les Combes and ahead of Lance Stroll and that takes the McLaren man up to seventh.

A bit of cheer for McLaren after Carlos Sainz could not start the race because of an exhaust problem.

  13. 'Strange situation with Bottas'published at 15:24 British Summer Time 30 August 2020

    Jolyon Palmer
Former Renault driver on BBC Radio 5 live

Hamilton is in control and is the only one in the top three not complaining.

A strange situation with Bottas with that numbness in his leg, I never had that in my career. He said 'again' so it is something that he has known about. A strange one and he is dropping back.

  14. Postpublished at Lap 36/44

All the action is happening elsewhere, Lewis Hamilton has a strong grip on this one with a lead of more than five seconds clear of Valtteri Bottas.

This will be win 89 if the Brit stays in front. Two short of Michael Schumacher's overall record of 91.

If Hamilton keeps winning, he will equal Schumacher's record at Mugello - Ferrari's home track.

Sebastian Vettel: "Not too bad but I tell you I am going to get eaten up."
