    Great to see Hulkenberg back.

Not great to see the hashtag #hulkenback getting another outing.

  3. Stroll to miss just one race?published at 13:14 British Summer Time 10 October 2020

It's been an incredible achievement from all concerned to have 10 races so far this season - enough for it to be classed as a world championship campaign no matter what happens.

If Lance Stroll does miss out, he has a fortnight to recover as the next race weekend isn't until 23-25 October with Portugal back on the schedule.

Hulkenberg to replace Stroll for this race?

Kayleigh: My little heart says Stoffel should race. My head says Hulk because he knows the car. Ultimately I would just like Stroll to be okay and whatever his illness is to not be anything serious.

Danny Jones: Hulkenberg's the only other person to have driven that car, and he deserves one last shot at the podium, could you imagine the scenes.

Remember, Hulkenberg has started 178 races, but never finished in the top three.

  7. How they standpublished at 12:56 British Summer Time 10 October 2020

Those six points that Nico Hulkenberg picked up back in race five means he is still ahead of six drivers who have raced in all 10 events in 2020.

  8. A return for the Hulk?published at 12:52 British Summer Time 10 October 2020

    Nico HulkenbergImage source, Reuters

Earlier this year Nico Hulkenberg (dropped by Renault at the end of 2019) was called up by Racing Point for a two-race cameo after Sergio Perez became the first (and so far only) F1 driver this season to test positive for coronavirus at a race after he had made a trip to Mexico to see his mother.

Hulkenberg jumped in to the seat for the first of the two races at Silverstone. He qualified 13th for the British Grand Prix but the car let him down on race day and he was unable to start.

But he got a second chance a week later, stunned everyone to qualify third at the 70th Anniversary Grand Prix and then came seventh to secure six championship points.

Will he get a chance to build on that this weekend?

Who should race for Racing Point if Stroll can't and why?

Sam Gent: I think Mick Schumacher should replace Lance Stroll because he is already in the bubble.

Chris of Ballard: If Stroll can't take part in qualy and therefore then the race, it has to be Hulkenberg who takes that seat. He's familiar with the car in race trim and the only person otherwise who has the experience.

Sulaimon Adelekan: Nico Hulkenburg should take Lance Stroll's place. So unfortunately for Racing Point, they're left with no choice.

  10. Bottas quickest in hectic final practicepublished at 12:35 British Summer Time 10 October 2020

Valtteri Bottas led a Mercedes one-two at the end of a hectic final practice session at the Eifel Grand Prix.

The stand-out performance, though, came from Charles Leclerc, who was third fastest for Ferrari as the team tried out what they call minor upgrades in an attempt to improve their performance.

Hamilton was on a lap that would have put him fastest when he had to back off at the final corner as a result of a spin by Williams driver Nicholas Latifi.

That left Bottas quickest by 0.136secs at the end of the only practice session before qualifying, after Friday’s running was abandoned because of low cloud which prevented the medical helicopter flying.

Leclerc’s team-mate Sebastian Vettel continued the encouraging performance by Ferrari with fifth place, the red cars sandwiching Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, who also had a lap ruined by Latifi.

There are questions over the participation of Racing Point’s Lance Stroll, who did not take part in the session because he was unwell.

Racing Point have not said who might replace the Canadian if he cannot drive in qualifying, but the contenders are German Nico Hulkenberg, who has raced for the team twice already this year when Sergio Perez contracted coronavirus in the summer.

Mercedes reserve driver Stoffel Vandoorne, who Racing Point can call on, is also at the track and available should the team want the Belgian.

  11. Mercedes dominatepublished at 12:31 British Summer Time 10 October 2020

    Jack Nicholls
BBC Radio 5 Live F1 commentator

Whenever we have had Friday or Saturday washouts and Ferrari and Mercedes were right together, you would think 'who is going to get the advantage? Who has made the best of their run' but Mercedes now could just run in qualifying and probably still get pole.

If Bottas and Hamilton hadn't had their runs today, would they get through Q1? Probably.

Would they get through Q2? Yeah, probably.

Would they then take pole? Yeah, probably!

Even if they did no practice at all. That is where we don't quite have the competitiveness.

    Bad news rollercoaster fans.

James Macdonald: Unfortunately, the coaster is an enormous white elephant! Built with a compressed air launch to be the fastest in the world, it never reliably operated, was toned down and is now defunct. The speed crown was eventually taken by Red Force at Ferrari Land Abu Dhabi!

Good news for Ferrari, bad news for Antonio Giovinazzi, who is very much fighting to save his F1 career but needs to do a lot better than 18th.

All the teams will hope that they are roughly there on set-up now because you don't want to be turning a car upside down before qualifying, you want to know what you are running.

I think Red Bull are the team that need to find something. Max Verstappen was not happy with the front end of his car. Ferrari looking good; it's not a particular power-sensitive circuit and clearly it favours them more than recent tracks.

Another one for Valtteri Bottas to attack his critics over. After a win last time out in Russia, his second of the season, the Finn is the quickest man out there thanks to a 1:26.225.

It's a Mercedes one-two with Lewis Hamilton one tenth off.

And it's a welcome return to the top three for Ferrari with Charles Leclerc third. His team-mate Sebastian Vettel is fifth, with Max Verstappen in the middle.
