It is just a naked concrete barrier (at the site of the crash). There is no tyre wall in front of them.

They must have taken the order from the last mini sector from before Grosjean's accident. That's a very interesting one indeed.

They will restart in not quite the current order.

It's Hamilton from Verstappen, Perez, Bottas, in fourth not sixth, Albon, Ricciardo, Norris, Ocon, Gasly, Vettel, Stroll, Leclerc, Sainz, Giovinazzi, Kvyat, Raikkonen, Magnussen, Russell, Latifi.

Carlos Sainz, speaking to Sky Sports: "It is tough, especially at the beginning when you see the flames of the car and not knowing what is happening. When you see him jump out of the car it is really, really a relief."

Race to re-start at 15:35 GMT after Grosjean crash

GJ Dawson: think this but I never want to see a crash like that EVER again. So so pleased Grosjean is alive.

Just Mick: F1 always learns from big incidents like this. We'll definitely see some circuit changes here next year but I wonder if the next innovation could be automated fire extinguisher systems integrated around barriers. Next time help might not be so close..

Matthew Murnaghan: The Halo is quite possibly the best safety innovation in motorsport history. We would've lost another driver if that halo wasn't there.

  17. 'The halo may well have saved his life'published at 15:17 Greenwich Mean Time 29 November 2020

    Jolyon Palmer
Former Renault driver on BBC Radio 5 live

He’s come across Daniil Kvyat. They are trying to gain momentum on the drivers ahead then Grosjean has chopped across the nose of Kvyat on his inside. That has just pitched him into a high-speed accident with the approaching Armco and the barrier is not very far away from the track at the moment Grosjean hits. It’s actually closing in on the track and is coming in at an angle which gives Grosjean more of an angle than just a glancing blow.

The rest of it I have never seen before - how the front of the car punctures straight through the Armco, the rear falls away completely, the car is split in two and Grosjean is left in the Armco.

You have to say the halo may well have saved his life at this point.

Then there are just flames, everywhere, in the cockpit where Grosjean is, in his survival cell.

How he has walked away from it is just quite incredible. It is testament to the strength of Formula 1 cars. Just a crazy accident.

  18. Postpublished at 15:15 Greenwich Mean Time 29 November 2020

The metal barrier Romain Grosjean crashed into has been replaced by a section of concrete barriers. The intention is still for this race to be restarted.

    • Grosjean walked away but has been taken to hospital with a suspected broken rib.
  20. 'Never seen that much fire in 12 years'published at 15:12 Greenwich Mean Time 29 November 2020

Alan van der Merwe, driver of the F1 medical car: "It was a big surprise for us.

"I've never seen that much fire in 12 years. It took a little while to process what was going on but then Romain started to get out of the car himself, which was amazing.

"It was a relief when we finally got back to the medical centre.

"Everything worked hand in hand today: the halo, the barriers, the seat belt. Without one of things it could’ve been a different outcome.
