Super tight between the midfielders as usual, but they're right with the Red Bulls as well.

Hello, Daniel Ricciardo! The Australian goes second fastest, a tenth behind Verstappen. A sign of a competitive race or does it just mean the others have plenty more to give?

Mercedes say the gap to Verstappen is mainly straight line, which feels to me like they're saying when we turn the engines up it will be fine.

Russell's time falls away as the twists and turns of the lap continue but it's still a good effort. Seventh.

George Russell, who I think will have a much more low key weekend than last, has just gone seventh fastest in his Williams.

Speaking of Bottas, he's on a flying lap and again Mercedes are down on Max Verstappen's pace.

The Finn ends 0.491 seconds back on the Red Bull driver's time.

Hamilton comes around slightly quicker, closing the gap to Verstappen, but he's still three tenths off the pace.

Nathan Boshkov: Best Driver this year has been either Gasly, Hamilton or Leclerc. It’s really close for me. Underachiever is Vettel or Bottas for me.

Max Verstappen was fastest in first practice yesterday in a session of similar track temperatures to today. It'll be cooler in qualifying later but that's still an encouraging time for Verstappen.

Wow. Big lap from Verstappen. Huge improvement. Half a second to Hamilton.

Just as a write that, Lewis Hamilton sets a new time that puts him second - 0.132 seconds behind Verstappen. He was a little scruffy in the final sector.

Verstappen follows Hamilton over the line and goes considerably quicker. It's a 1:36.734. Impressive.

Amit Mandalia: biggest winners: the fans because we’ve seen some exciting races at new and old tracks (albeit not in person) and F1’s been able to put on a good show in a difficult year. Biggest losers: Ferrari powered cars. Nothing more needs to be said!

On track, Lewis Hamilton aborts a flying lap only moments after it began.

Alex Albon is currently quickest with a 1:37.536. Lando Norris is second and Valtteri Bottas third.

Rob: Winner: Russell - surely a Merc contract in the bag? Loser: Vettel - no raw pace or motivation. He just finds Kimi and races with his mate!

The Leaf Press: 2020 winners: Hamilton (spot on all season), Russell (showing future potential), Gasly (up yours to RB!), Perez. Losers: Albon (sorry), Haas (for signing Mazepin) and track limits generally. Thanks for your brilliant commentary all season - have loved it.
