The virtual safety car, now is a full safety car and loads and loads of drivers dive into the pits for a switch on to the hards. They may have to manage their tyres but that could be the pit stops pretty much done for the day.

Hamilton: "That is going to be a long way on that tyre, man."

"Copy, Lewis. We will still go for it," his engineer replies.

It looks like a mechanical issue for Perez.

That could be the end Racing Point's hope of third in the constructors.

That is huge. It is so damaging for Racing Point. Perez is gutted. It could be his last Formula1 race.

  7. Perez out - mechanical issuepublished at 13:30 Greenwich Mean Time 13 December 2020

This is a terrible, terrible way for Sergio Perez's season to end. This may be the last race of his career.

He was at the back after engine changes, but his car conks out after only 10 laps.

Winner last week, first out this one.

Mercedes have to try and pincer Verstappen and expose vulnerability on strategy. If there is a window for Bottas to pit I am sure they will. They want to get into range to undercut if they can. If they do that then Hamilton will go long. That is the advantage Mercedes have with two cars at the front to Red Bull's one.

Tanya Smith: I like Albon, but he needs to pick it up now. He has 50 laps to save his seat. Otherwise we may see Perez in that seat next year.

Chris Wignall: Yawn. Another Abu classic in store. The only interesting race at this track was when Hamilton deliberately drove slowly to back up Rosberg.

Harry: Most boring start five laps we’ve had for ages. No, Lewis Hamilton isn’t leading. It’s Max Verstappen.

A beautiful bit of driving from Albon. That is big for him.

Alexander Albon, maybe in the Red Bull for the last time, dives down the inside of Lando Norris at Turn Eight, Norris briefly retakes fourth, but can't make it stick and Albon is fourth.

Red Bull one and four, Mercedes two and three, McLaren five and six.
