John K Wilkinson: I’ll start the ball rolling with the predictions. No idea who will be 1st and 2nd, but Valtteri Bottas starting last will make 3rd. For sure.

That's half sitting on the fence, half a really bold call!

"Should be an easy win for Max."

Who's Lewis Hamilton trying to kid? There's no way he actually believes that.

His refusal to give up last week at Zandvoort, even when his team were saying he had no chance, was the only thing that kept the Dutch GP interesting.

Whatever happens, Hamilton will be fighting right to the end, as he always does.

Lewis Hamilton was, understandably, a bit deflated in the paddock after Saturday's sprint race when a bad start saw him drop from second to fifth, with a fourth-placed position today.

The seven-time world champion told Sky Sports: "It wasn't great, but it is what it is.

"We underestimated how well [Red Bull] would start. I've got to try and figure out how I can get by and try to limit the damage.

"You saw the pace of the Red Bull - they are so fast. It should be an easy win for [Max Verstappen] and I have to try and get past the two guys [the McLarens] ahead."

  10. 'Full attack'published at 12:45 British Summer Time 12 September 2021

Daniel Ricciardo, who has had a tough first season with McLaren, came third yesterday and starts second today: "It's been a long time to be in this position. It's good to be back.

"Sunday is the important one. We gain a position due to Valtteri's problems, so that's good.

"Full attack! That's what gave me a good start. I thought maybe I would get Max into Turn 1 but I'm looking forward to it."

  11. 'Race was better than expected'published at 12:42 British Summer Time 12 September 2021

Max Verstappen finished second yesterday but gets promoted to pole: "It's amazing to be here and see all the Italian fans, they are so passionate.

"The race was better than expected, we scored some nice little points. It is going to be an interesting race.

"We did trim our car to have decent top speed but we also know Mercedes have good speed over the whole lap."

  12. 'We had good pace'published at 12:40 British Summer Time 12 September 2021

Valtteri Bottas picked up three points for the sprint win, but a change of a power unit drops him to the back today. He said: "I feel good. It feels like it has been a while to finish first in a race.

"Unfortunately I'm starting from the back but the speed is there, so I'll be fighting and coming as high as I can. Today, I enjoyed it and it was a clean race. We had a good pace. All good.

"Tomorrow is not going to be easy, that's for sure. The train of cars with DRS, it's not easy but obviously strategy-wise, still a free choice of tyres for the start, so let's see if we can do something."

  13. Sprint paid off for Verstappenpublished at 12:39 British Summer Time 12 September 2021

With points on offer for finishing in the top three during sprint qualifying, Max Verstappen has now extended his lead in the drivers' championship to five points.

Red Bull's Max Verstappen will start the Italian Grand Prix from pole with title rival Lewis Hamilton only fourth.

Hamilton's Mercedes team-mate Valtteri Bottas won the 'sprint' qualifying race but will start last after taking a penalty for a power unit change.

Hamilton finished behind McLaren's Daniel Ricciardo and Lando Norris after an uncharacteristically poor start.

Verstappen now leads Hamilton by five points in the title race after taking two points for second in the sprint.

Bottas took three points for first and Ricciardo one for third.
