  5. Silencing the criticspublished at 15:29 British Summer Time 12 September 2021

Daniel Ricciardo has had a huge amount of really tough criticism in his first season with McLaren and with the continued excellence of his team-mate Lando Norris.

This win for Ricciardo, the eighth in his career and first since 2018, shuts up a lot of his critics.

  8. A podium for Bottaspublished at 15:27 British Summer Time 12 September 2021

Sergio Perez crosses the line third, but that five second penalty drops him to fifth.

Valtteri Bottas, who won the sprint race on Saturday, but dropped to 20th because of a new power unit, fights back to claim third. Brilliant from the Finn, in the week he's been dropped by Mercedes.

Unbelievable! What a race. What a performance. Daniel Ricciardo wins for the first time in a McLaren.

This will be Lando Norris' best-ever result in Formula 1 but it is a little bit gutting when your team-mate wins it and you've been ahead of him consistently all season.

One lap to go. Daniel Ricciardo leads, Lando Norris is second. Valtteri Bottas heading for third, with Sergio Perez, third on track, getting a five-second penalty.

  14. Good weekend for Bottaspublished at 15:22 British Summer Time 12 September 2021

    Jolyon Palmer
Former Renault driver on BBC Radio 5 Live

This could be one of Valtteri Bottas' best weekends in Formula 1.

Out-qualified Lewis Hamilton over one lap. Only had one shot in Q3 as well with the slipstream and managed to hook it up for the front of the grid for the sprint and led the sprint from start to finish.

Started from the back today due to the engine penalty, has made his way through the pack, done some decent overtakes and now he's looking for a podium place.

Michael: Let's also not ignore the fact it's looking good for points for RUS

Stuart Mitchell: Bottas won't catch the mclarens not enough pace and not enough time left in race. This is capping off a brilliant sporting weekend.

Andrew Priestley: This race sums up Valtteri Bottas’ time at Mercedes. A man in the fastest car on the grid capable of some moments of incredible pace and overtaking; but ultimately, in the end, just not consistent enough for long enough.

Today's a day to praise Bottas, not have a go at him. He was right at the back at the start and is probably going to be on the podium at the end.

Any late drama? We're down to four laps to go. Daniel Ricciardo has been absolutely flawless since a brilliant, brave overtaking move on Max Verstappen right at the start.

But that sentence does not do anywhere near justice to all the drama we've had.

Remember, Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton were both wiped out of the race when they collided. Verstappen's car drove over that of Hamilton. Both, thankfully, walked away unhurt.

  17. Can McLaren do it again?published at 15:19 British Summer Time 12 September 2021

IF the Italian Grand Prix ends with Daniel Ricciardo winning and team-mate Lando Norris second, it will be McLaren's first one-two since Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton triumphed at the Canadian Grand Prix in 2010.

  19. Champagne - out of the racing boot?published at Lap 47/53

Daniel Ricciardo has won seven times in his career - all when at Red Bull, with his last one being a masterful drive despite all sorts of car problems in Monaco in May 2018.

It's been a while since we've had a podium shoey and more than three years since a winning shoey.
