Geraint Jones: How vital was the halo on Hamilton’s car in that crash!! Certainly prevented serious injury if not worse!

Lewis: 50/50 incident I think that. Both drivers could have left more room or bailed out of it. Hope there's no penalty for either in the next race. Slow stops from both RB and Merc very costly though leading to that.

Rachel T: Without the halo, Lewis is seriously injured there. Terrifying.

It was a huge, horrible impact and Hamilton was saved by the halo.

  3. 'Hamilton gave space'published at 14:51 British Summer Time 12 September 2021

For me, Hamilton gives plenty of space at the second apex - it's not as though he has squeezed Verstappen there as well.

For me that's a racing incident.

The two are side-by-side, Verstappen squeezed to the kerb on the inside, Hamilton continued to turn in - it's a racing incident once again.

This is monumental. Two drivers fighting for the championship and they can't afford to lose to each other... so they just crash! Second time we have seen that!

  8. Postpublished at 14:47 British Summer Time 12 September 2021

Seeing the pictures of the crash again, it is a miracle no-one is hurt.

Verstappen's Red Bull goes right over the top of Hamilton. The halo may well have just saved Hamilton's life there.

Both men are walking away, seemingly unscathed. We talk about the drama, but the only news that truly obviously matters is that both Verstappen and Hamilton are fine.

I don't think Charles Leclerc is close to Daniel Ricciardo but he is going to have an advantage here!

  10. Safety carpublished at 14:44 British Summer Time 12 September 2021

That Verstappen-Hamilton crash has brought out the safety car.

This could be brilliant news for Charles Leclerc and Sergio Perez and terrible news for Daniel Ricciardo as the first two in effect get a free pitstop.
