    Max Verstappen set an imposing pace in Friday practice at the Miami Grand Prix as he headed the Ferraris of Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc.

    The world champion was 0.385 seconds quicker than Sainz, with Leclerc just 0.083secs further adrift.

    Red Bull's Sergio Perez, six points adrift of Verstappen in the title race, was fourth, 0.489secs back.

    Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was fifth, ahead of McLaren's Lando Norris and the Mercedes of Lewis Hamilton.

    Mercedes achieved a one-two in first practice earlier on but the second hour goes to two-time world champion Max Verstappen, who comes home quickest with 1:27.930.

    Transportation has arrived to pick Charles Leclerc up. The Monegasque driver is on the back of the scooter heading back to the garage while his Ferrari is recovered by the marshals.

    It was on the downshift, running a little bit wide... thump! Into the wall. Front right is mangled, the rear of the car is intact.

    Lewis Hamilton is seventh fastest with less than 20 minutes to go and is finding his running a bit scrappy in his Mercedes.

    Meanwhile, his team-mate George Russell has some information for the pit wall. "I think it's three wheeling through the left-hander, Turn Two," the 25-year-old tells his crew.

    The track is now being kinder to the drivers in this session, offering up more grip as the sun starts to set in Florida. Carlos Sainz lifts his Ferrari up into second place and is just under four tenths away from Max Verstappen, who is still leading the field.
