Just been talking to the Alfa Romeo team, they think it's an MGUH problem for Zhou so not great. Great to have it in this session though, hopefully they can get it fixed for qualifying later on. Of course Alfa Romeo with work to do although Zhou seemingly in better form than Valtteri Bottas of late.

Silverstone is bright green as drivers creep out of the garage on the intermediate tyres. Most runners out on track are in the 1:42s or 1:41s but Max Verstappen has managed to bump his time down to a 1:38.580 in these conditions.

  6. More cars in F1?published at 12:25 British Summer Time 8 July 2023

I am very 50-50 on this. I would love to see more cars on the grid. 24, 26 cars looks more impressive than 20. However we saw an influx of teams in 2010 - the teams that came in then did not really work. Would these teams, if they came in be able to afford to have multiple seasons in F1?

Ocon will be coming in shortly. There's quite a bit of weight on his shoulders now to get some good running in beacuse Gasly's car is being looked at by the mechanics underneath it. They were having a good look at the floor, the torch was out, some tape was being applied.

Valtteri Bottas is coming in now as well. There's more pressure for Bottas to gather data at the moment as well given that Zhou's car is still up on the stands

Max Verstappen crosses the line and clocks a time in the 1:41s on the green inters.

Red Bull think the green intermediate tyres will be good for two laps in these conditions. Does Max Verstappen agree? "No, just one," the two-time world champion tells his engineer.

McLaren has sent out Lando Norris on some soft tyres to test the Silverstone track conditions. "A little bit of rain here," the 23-year-old says.

Esteban Ocon is also out, but on the green inters, and the McLaren and Alpine are alongside each other to the delight of the crowd.

I'm down at Zhou Guanyu's garage and his car isn't going anywhere fast. The front wing is off, that's on a stand. The car is up on stands as well with mechanics working underneath it. The back of the car is fully exposed so the engine cover is off and there are a lot of hurrying mechanics around the place trying to get the job done as quickly as possible with less than half an hour left on the clock but at the moment he's out of the car.

The track, in some areas are dry but Sector Three looks a lot wetter. The rain is coming from Stowe and going across the track. Lando Norris has said Turn Seven looks the wettest.

There is a bit of spray but Lando thinks it is dry enough to go to a soft compound tyre.

Lando Norris has come out on the intermediate tyres. He radios through to his McLaren pit wall to say the track is looking OK, it's just Turn Seven that is "probably the wettest."

Norris is back to the safety of the pits and asks, "do you want to put a slick on?".

George Russell has also gone green with his rubber and tells Mercedes: "It's spitting Turns Three to Seven."

Brad Pitt is in pretty decent shape and would put the rest of us to shame. Brad was not in the garage this morning, but his double was! Brad Pitt's car was not there as that is in the old pits - and there are three cars and all the film crew were there too. It was very impressive!

Pierre Gasly grabbed Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton for photo with Brad Pitt on Friday, or should that be 'Sonny Hayes, veteran driver who is back on the F1 grid to mentor a rising young star.'

The Hollywood megastar is at Silverstone filming his new Apple F1 movie and has been shooting scenes in a modified Formula 2 car.

The fictional APXGP team even has its own garage this weekend, with Pitt's character Sonny Hayes on one side and Joshua Pearce, played by British actor Damson Idris, on the other.

Hamilton is a producer on the untitled film and production will continue across a number of race weekends this season.
