Yes he can!!
Lewis Hamilton clocks a 1:16.609 and claims his 104th career pole position and his first since the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix in 2021!!
Max Verstappen stays on provisional pole but doesn't improve with great strides, so the rest of the pack has a chance.
Lando Norris is first to try his luck but goes P2. Here comes Lewis Hamilton. Can he make it nine poles in Budapest? ...
Or maybe Charles Leclerc wants to throw down the gauntlet to the rest of the field? The Ferrari man crosses the line but only goes into P4.

It's not even that big of a gap between Verstappen and the rest at the moment, it's just over a tenth and Hamilton's clearly enjoying this track and the car at the moment, he's really, really strong in sector two.
The McLaren mechanics are looking nervous in the garage, as I'm sure we all are. Less than two minutes to go...

Jennifer Harris: GO LANDO!!!!
So, we might get a sixth 2023 pole in a row for Max Verstappen or a record ninth pole position at the Hungaroring for Lewis Hamilton.
Which one would you prefer?

We are talk about who the contender for P2 is at the moment and at the moment we've got a Mercedes, a McLaren, an Aston Martin and of course Perez there, then the Ferrari, it is so hard to call every single race weekend who's going to be challenging for that P2 spot.
Here's the top 10 after the first flying laps of this pole shootout.
1. Max Verstappen
2. Lewis Hamilton
3. Lando Norris
4. Fernando Alonso
5. Sergio Perez
6. Charles Leclerc
7. Valtteri Bottas
8. Nico Hulkenberg
9. Oscar Piastri
10. Zhou Guanyu
Provisional pole for the Dutchman! Max Verstappen goes nearly three tenths faster than the McLaren of Lando Norris.
The Briton has pushed down to the second row now, as Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton strides through to slot into P2 with a 1:16. 738.
Lando Norris goes onto provisional pole! The Briton clocks a 1:16.904 on those mandatory soft tyres.
But, here comes the Red Bull of Max Verstappen, looking for his sixth pole position in a row...
Right then, put your money on your driver to grab pole in Budapest.
Sergio Perez, once again, sets the first time of the session with a 1:17.142.
Nico Hulkenberg goes second quickest in the Haas but here comes the rocket ship McLaren...
George Russell has just been speaking in the media pen and sounds completely deflated with his Q1 performance and the traffic issues that hindered his final run. He acknowledges tomorrow's race is going to be a tough one from P18 on the grid.
The final part of the trial format for qualifying is green. The softest C5 tyre is the only one you can use in this pole fight.
I've just overheard a radio message with some profanity in it. I think it was Canadian Lance Stroll who was effing and jeffing to his Aston Martin crew after his Q2 failure.

That's a big shock for Carlos Sainz but in terms of good news Daniel Ricciardo should be pretty pumped by that P13 result for him, out-qualifying his team-mate on the first chance and getting into Q2 for Alpha Tauri, potentially scoring a point tomorrow afternoon, what a comeback!
11.Carlos Sainz (Ferrari)
12. Esteban Ocon (Alpine)
13. Daniel Ricciardo (Alpha Tauri)
14. Lance Stroll (Aston Martin)
15. Pierre Gasly (Alpine)
Chequered flag is dropped. Sergio Perez has made it into Q3!
Carlos Sainz is another big name to fall at the final hurdle and fails to make it through to the pole position shootout.
Esteban Ocon is trying to knock out Carlos Sainz and save himself but can't quite deliver the knockout blow. Sainz is safe... for now, because here comes his team-mate Charles Leclerc to go P6 and drop the Spaniard back into danger in P11.
