Hello again, folks. Day has turned to night in Singapore and a dark qualifying session is about 40 minutes away.

Temperatures are around 29C now, so slightly, ever so slightly, cooler than third practice a few hours ago. Those ice baths and cold towels are still vital pieces of recovery kit, however.

The battle to start tomorrow's grand prix goes green at 14:00 BST.

Live commentary is online-only and available to listen to via the icon audio at the top of the page.

This driver has been in a class of his own so far during the 2023 season but his rapid Red Bull is not quite at the levels we have been accustomed to around the gruelling test of the Marina Bay Street Circuit.

Will Max Verstappen be able to tame is his wayward Bull and claim another pole position to add to his tally?

Or are we set to see multiple teams in the fight for the front row - and Verstappen and Sergio Perez looking on from the outside?

  3. Sainz fastest again in final practicepublished at 11:44 British Summer Time 16 September 2023

Carlos Sainz continued Ferrari’s strong form at the Singapore Grand Prix with fastest time in final practice before qualifying.

Sainz edged out Mercedes driver George Russell by 0.069 seconds, with McLaren’s Lando Norris third fastest ahead of the Red Bull’s Max Verstappen.

Ferrar’s Charles Leclerc was fifth, struggling to put a flying lap together without mistakes, with Lewis Hamilton sixth.

The stand-out from the session was that Red Bull were struggling to find their usual form, as they had been on Friday.

Verstappen spent most of the session complaining over the team radio about upshifts.

At one point, the Dutchman said he “couldn’t drive with these upshifts” and described the situation as “unacceptable”.

He jumped up from sixth to fourth with a final lap, completed after Red Bull had called him in to “try something on the upshifts”, but said the problem, while improved, was still there.

“It’s not just the upshifts,” he told race engineer Giampiero Lambiase, “it’s also the downshifts - it’s giving me wheelspin.”

He also said he was still “struggling for rear grip”, as he had been on Friday, and said he felt like he was "in a drifting competition".

Behind Hamilton, Oscar Piastri, who does not have the full extent of the upgrades McLaren team-mate Norris has for this weekend, was seventh.

Red Bull’s Sergio Perez, also suffering from oversteer. Haas driver Nico Hulkenberg and Alpha Tauri’s Yuki Tsunoda completed the top 10.

Max Verstappen is not a happy bunny in that Red Bull.

Is this the chance the rest of the field have been waiting for this season?

How many teams will be fighting it out for pole later on?

We'll answer those questions after we've all had a little break and stretch.

Get yourselves back here at 13:15 BST for build-up.

It's not where he (Verstappen) wanted to be in that Red Bull with upshift issues and downshift issues, the rear not playing ball, he finished fourth fastest.

Ferrari are top again in practice but this time, George Russell and his Mercedes take second place.

Carlos Sainz is the man to beat with a 1:32.065 on the soft tyre, Russell is 0.069 seconds behind and Lando Norris finishes third in the McLaren.

While other drivers struggle, Carlos Sainz has returned to the top of the timesheets with a 1:32.065 on the soft rubber.

The Spaniard attacks another lap but takes a bumpy trip across the kerb. It doesn't matter, however, as George Russell can only produce a second-best time with a marker 0.069 seconds off Sainz.

Charles Leclerc has a nibble once again but does exactly the same as he team-mate and has to abort his attempt.

  12. Postpublished at 11:26 British Summer Time 16 September 2023

The second Ferrari of Charles Leclerc has entered proceedings and as the Monegasque driver was on pole last year, he should be a dab hand at controlling a Formula 1 car around this demanding circuit.

Well, we're all allowed a little wobble and after brushing the wall a little too close for comfort, Leclerc time is only good enough for fourth fastest.

Over at Red Bull, Verstappen is told to come back to the pits. Those upshifts need looking at.

  13. 'Red Bull not proving to be the dominant force'published at 11:25 British Summer Time 16 September 2023

    Harry Benjamin
    BBC F1 Commentator

It has not been a straight forward weekend for the Red Bulls so far, they aren't out and out fastest of everybody, they are not proving to be the dominant force that they have been all season long. They've got issues, complaining of the rear instability, Verstappen on the radio complaining about upshift issues with his gears.

Max Verstappen is on the prowl and looking to overcome the niggles that have blighted Red Bull's running so far this weekend. The Dutchman is on the soft tyre but his best time is four tenths away from Lando Norris' best marker.

Someone who can push the McLaren down the pecking order is Carlos Sainz, who goes top with a 1:32.064.

Verstappen, meanwhile, is not happy, not happy at all, with how his car is performing around the bumpy streets of Singapore.

This heat and humidity can sometimes lead to little mistakes, it was really interesting just watching the Mercedes then with the engineers and the mechanics before they sent Lewis out, the two front gunners gunned the tyres on and then the number one mechanic on Lewis' car went out to triple check the nuts, so I feel there is a lot of triple checking going on.

Activate the Stealth Mode, Lando Norris has just beaten his mate George Russell's best time. The upgraded McLaren gifts Norris a 1:32.303 on the soft compound.

My word. Be careful, Alex Albon. The Williams man kisses the wall but thankfully avoids causing any damage to that fine looking livery.

    Yes, yes he can.

George Russell extracts a bit more pace out of his Mercedes and clocks a 1:32.364.

Esteban Ocon is next to cross the line on C5 rubber and slots into second place, six tenths off the marker Russell has just put down.

The Sao Paulo Grand Prix in November 2022 was the last time a non-Red Bull driver celebrated a race victory in Formula 1.

That day, it was George Russell who was ecstatic after sealing his maiden win and the Mercedes man is out on track now on new soft tyres.

Can he go quicker and stay at the top of the timesheets?
