  2. 'I really pushed to try and make up time' - Strollpublished at 16:43 British Summer Time 16 September 2023

Lance Stroll spoke to Sky Sports after getting the all clear following his crash in qualifying: "I'm feeling ok. I think we were pretty slow just with the out laps, being really bad with a lot of traffic, we didn't have any temperature in the tyres throughout the whole of Q1. So I started the lap two seconds behind the car in front of me I think it was the Alpine, so we were losing a lot of downforce and tyre prep and I saw we weren't really going through to Q2, so I really pushed in the last few corners to try and make up some time and see if something magical could happen to go through and it just didn't stick."

  3. 'I was just so slow today' - Hamiltonpublished at 16:32 British Summer Time 16 September 2023

Lewis Hamilton qualified in fifth for Sunday's grand prix, three places behind his team-mate George Russell. He said: "In Q1 the traffic was bad when everyone moved over and there was a bunch of people, I tried to stay out of trouble but yeah it was definitely messy at the beginning, but I didn't have any traffic otherwise."

On the car's performance, he added: "Clearly we had a really great package here and the car was feeling incredible yesterday and there was so much hope that with some tweaks we would be able to challenge the Ferraris and obviously one of the cars was able to do that and I wasn't today.

"They made big changes overnight and it just run away from me again, I was just so slow today, it's obviously disappointing but tomorrow is a new day and I really hope George gets a great start tomorrow and put some pressure on those Ferraris and get a win."

With the changes to the track this year, the Singapore Grand Prix will be 62 laps instead of the 61 laps we watched last season. It'll still be a long, arduous race for the drivers, a test that will see them lose as much as 3-4kg in body weight by the time the chequered flag falls.

  7. 'Just a shocking experience' - Verstappenpublished at 16:09 British Summer Time 16 September 2023

Max Verstappen has been chatting to Sky Sports about his qualifying experience in Singapore. The Dutchman, who will start 11th on the grid, said: "I knew it was always going to be tough to put it on pole but this, I didn't expect.

"But also, I think, we have been struggling. I think FP3 was not too bad but we tried a few more things for qualifying that I think tipped it over and I think it became undriveable again, where the car was massively bottoming out in the big braking zones.

"Like I said on the radio, just a shocking experiencing. I was trying to lean on the car a bit in low speed and it was constantly sliding and no traction. Just really difficult to drive."

  9. 'Physical challenge is going to be something for sure' - Leclercpublished at 16:03 British Summer Time 16 September 2023

Charles Leclerc will start on the second row in third at the Singapore Grand Prix, he said: “It’s extremely difficult as everywhere but here probably more so with the tyre temp and the overheating throughout the lap, it’s always a balance between the first and the last sector, but everything was super close, Mercedes were really strong today too. It was an interesting qualifying and unfortunately I missed it a little bit to gain a few positions but again Carlos did a great job."

On the tomorrow’s race, he added: “The physical challenge tomorrow is going to be something for sure, it’s extremely warm, extremely humid but until now we’ve had a very good performance, honestly we did not expect to be so competitive on a track like this so this is a good time for the future but let’s see what we can do tomorrow.”

  10. Definitely a challenging session - Russellpublished at 15:58 British Summer Time 16 September 2023

Mercedes George Russell, who will start on the front row alongside Carlos Sainz:: "It was definitely a challenging session when you are sat in that car, when you're sat in the sauna just sweating it out. You've got to keep your composure and keep cool.

"Really happy with this weekend as a whole. I feel really confident in the car. We have another set of medium tyres tomorrow, which nobody around us has had, so to get to Q3 and be on the front row with a strategic advantage tomorrow is an exciting place to be.

"The track is different this year. The tyre degradation on Friday was pretty bad, so I think it's going to be close between a one and a two stop. With our mediums, we can put Ferrari in a difficult position and force them into an error and try and gain the upper-hand, so that's we're looking for."

  11. 'I'm going to give it everything' - Sainzpublished at 15:54 British Summer Time 16 September 2023

Carlos Sainz earns his second pole position in a row in the Ferrari. He said after qualifying: “A bit like in Monza really hitting the ground running from FP1 and feeling very confident all through the sessions and putting it together in Q3, focusing on not doing any mistakes in that lap and keeping it clean.”

On the balance of the car, he added: “We have a very good car in certain tracks and certain conditions and like one lap, and this sort of short exits and quick changes in direction our car seems to be very good this weekend, like in Monza we know our weakness is always the race pace and we always pay a price but everyone has been doing a great job over the last couple of weekends to understand the package and understand the car and I think we are definitely making a bit of progress."

On the race pace, he added: “Race pace is a bit of a question mark, it’s not like in Friday you can learn much but Mercedes is always a bit quicker than us come race day, they have a bit of a different strategy with tyres that we will have to keep an eye on.”

And on the potential to dethrone Red Bull, he said: "That would feel amazing and that's the target to try and get the win tomorrow, I'm going to give it everything like I did in Monza and hopefully tomorrow is enough."
