  1. McIlroy 'needs a mid-60s round'published at 17:53

    McIlroy +2 (tee-off time: 18:55)

Rory knows he must go low today. But how low? Setting a major-best low of 62 would do nicely...

Obviously our Holywood hero won't put a number on his target. Publicly anyway.

"Have I got a score in mind? I don't think so, I don't want to put pressure on myself to go out and shoot a number," he says.

"I need to play well and solid, I know some of the pins are gettable. I need to get into red numbers as soon as I can and give the guys in front of me something to think about.

"I need to be in mid-60s to have a chance."

  2. Enjoyable day to play golf - McIlroypublished at 17:48

    McIlroy +2 (tee-off time: 18:55)

Rory struggled with the biting winds and concrete greens yesterday, but says he couldn't ask for better conditions to attempt the seemingly impossible today.

"We've seen early today that a couple of the guys are off to good starts - I need something similar. It should be a more enjoyable and pleasant day to play golf," he tells legendary Masters interviewer Billy Kratzert on the range.

  3. Weather watch...published at 17:44

Brian Wacker of the PGA Tour brings us the weather with emojis. In a nutshell, yesterday we saw winds of around 17mph and gusts reaching 25mph yesterday. It's calmer today, as Brian tells us with some colourful images...

    McIlroy +2 (tee-off time: 18:55)

Right on cue, we see a glimpse of Rory for the first time today. Decked out in a skintight, Leicester City-blue jacket - with matching shoelaces, of course - he starts to find his radar on the putting green. How ripped is Rory these days? Can't help but notice those bulging biceps and protruding pecs. Must spend as much time in the gym as he does the range...

    McIlroy +2 (tee-off time: 18:55)

How have I been chuntering on for over an hour and barely mentioned the name of Rory McIlroy? Tsk.

This time yesterday, all the talk was about the Northern Irishman and his final-pairing showdown with Jordan Spieth. His ears aren't burning today, however.

An off-colour McIlroy slipped off the Augusta radar with a five-over 77, leaving the four-time major winner five adrift of Spieth.

    Scott (+5 after 2)

Adam Scott knows Augusta as well as most. He's been there, done it and got the Green Jacket. The 2013 champ came into the week as 2016's in-form man, but has struggled to tame the gusty winds. Not on your own there Adam.

But with just a gentle breeze wafting the flags today, the Aussie is ripping it up. Two holes, two birdies. That's lifted him above about a dozen names to tied 21st.

    Spieth -3 (tee-off time: 19:45)

Jordan Spieth has just left the practice putting green, heading off - I think - towards the driving range. Our leader is, unsurprisingly, full of beans...jogging off, high-fiving a row of selfie-hunting kids behind the safety barrier.

  14. Can he win it?published at 17:00

Bernhard Langer would be the oldest Major by 10 years.Image source, BBC Sport

If Langer wins his third Green Jacket today he would beat Julius Boros's record, who won the US PGA championships in 1968, aged 48 years 4 months and 18 days.

  15. Bernhard beating Old Father Timepublished at 16:58

    Langer -1 (tee-off time: 19:35)

Bernhard Langer is a man who is refusing to be beaten by age. Same flowing 80s mullet, same (only slightly-weathered) complexion, same irrepressible short game. He can't, can he?

"I believe I can win. Obviously it depends how the others do," says the world number 1080.

"If I play my best, I can shoot four or five under, I think, if the conditions are a littlebit better."

Bernhard Langer in the penultimate pairing?! Nope you haven't stepped into a time travelling machine and woken up in 1987. Of course you haven't...Jordan Spieth wasn't even born when German's classiest visor wearer was squeezing into his first Green Jacket.

But here is Langer again - at the ripe old age of 58 - challenging for a third Masters title. If cheap Danish lagers did major golf events...

A decent pace being set by some of the early starters. Henrik Stenson has picked up a couple of strokes after three holes to get back to +7, while Kevin Na - playing on his own today - seems to be embracing the solitude, with two birdies and an eagle on the front nine taking him from +15 to +11.
