  1. Double bogey for Watsonpublished at 22:31

Lowry is another who has taken a trip to Mickelson's pine needles, but can only run it out. Watson tidies up that double bogey, dropping back to three over. That's four dropped shots in three holes. Much to do.

  2. Birdie for Ian Poulterpublished at 22:30

Ian Poulter! Draining a birdie putt at 16. Three under, three behind.

Where's Bubba having to aim there? It's lightning fast, quicker than a hiccup, breaking from left to right like a Graeme Swann off-spinner. He's done well to get it that close. Will be a double bogey. On the the 13th tee, in shadow, Shane Lowry has missed the fairway.

On the subject of bearded major winners, Graeme McDowell has been shouted. Was he really bearded, or was that designer stubble? This one will rumble on.

Lovely evening now, sun glinting off McIlroy's shaft as he goes down 12. Bubba Watson, off the drop, is at the back of the 15th green, miles from the hole. Looking at a double bogey there.

"Bubba Watson today, is just clearly not at it."

Bubba in the wet stuff! Off the tee at the 16th, the two-time champion falling apart on the first back nine of the week. Back-to-back bogeys, now in the water for the second successive hole. He can barely lift his visor-wearing head. Question, where else is it acceptable to wear a visor?

  9. McIlroy bogeys 11published at 22:20

As we thought, Rory McIlroy has dropped a shot at the 11th, all on the back of that tee shot that ended up making a tree house. He's back to one under. Dropped shots all over Ireland, in fact. At least one coming off the score of Shane Lowry at 12.

"Bubba Watson is having a really topsy turvy afternoon."

Ian Poulter, birdie chance at the par-five 15th, sees the putt slip out the back door. Bubba Watson has already dropped a shot there. His one-over round has been all over the show.

I wouldn't usually publish an anonymous text, but that is an excellent question. Lowry, in sand at the back of the green on 12, duffs a chip and can only get it to the fringe. A dropped shot coming his way.

Long way to go but if Lowry won the Masters, when was the last bearded one to win a major???

McIlroy's third, from the first cut. Towards the pin, but skipping away. It's a monster for par. I reckon he'd take a bogey right now if you offered it to him.

So, we're in the home straight. Rory McIlroy, in the final group, is on the 11th. He's in a tricky spot, in the trees to the right of the fairway. I'm not entirely sure what he was trying to do, but he barely makes it out of the woods. It'll be ridiculous if he gets up and down from there.

Shane Lowry and Angel Cabrera make a powerful pair on the green. It's like two prop forwards playing a round. After that good approach to the 11th, Lowry two-putts to stay at five under. Always good to get away from 11 unscathed.

Now then, here's an interesting development. Our colleagues at Five Live have just said that there is some confusion over whether Ernie Els took six or seven putts at the first. The footage I've seen only included six. If it is six, does that mean he actually only took a nine?

Actually, Jesper, we're well aware of the problems. You can't have all those azaleas without a decent amount of sneezing. Justin Rose, for one, is a hayfever sufferer.
