In the evening sunshine, DeChambeau has done just the same. Whenever he plays a bad shot, DeChambeau looks seriously wronged, as it someone has served him an injustice. It's made worse by his white cloth cap, the type Dickie Bird wore.

"That is a big mistake from Jordan Spieth going over the green."

Spieth found the fairway at 17, good position. Now the approach. He doesn't like it. It's over the back and down the slope. Not great, but not horrendous.

Casey, by the way, also bogeyed 16. That's three dropped shots in a row for the Englishman, who is back to one over. Now, his tee shot on 17 has gone right and is in the trees.

  9. Bogey for Spieth & DeChambeaupublished at 22:43

Now then. Here's something you don't see very often. The metronomic Jordan Spieth has missed his par putt at the 16th, not reading the break from right to left. DeChambeau too! Bogeys for both men. Spieth to five under, DeChambeau to three under. Are you watching Rory McIlroy?

In all of that, Jordan Spieth crept up the 16th and left a big un for birdie. Dechambeau and Casey did the same. All three left them short. For Casey, it rolled back and ended up further away. The best round of the day, by the way, is one under. Amateur Dechambeau is currently four under.

  17. Emotional Watson finishes in stylepublished at 22:32

It was almost incredible. From miles away, Watson set his ball way to the left of the hole, the entire crowd willing it to break. It starts, it rolls, has it got the legs? No, the red spots fall just short. He finishes, removes his cap, and salutes the gallery. Wonderful stuff.

What an ovation. The entire 18th gallery is on their feet, cheering a legend and gentleman of the game. The two-time Masters winner (eight majors overall) looks like he's got a tear in his eye. Emotional moments.
