Henrik Stenson is 68, 65, 68 so far this week. Can the Swede become the first champion to card four rounds at the Open Championship in the 60s since Tiger Woods in 2000?

Some more quotes from Phil Mickelson, who started the day in the lead, but ended it in second.

"It wasn't like the first two days. I struggled and it could have been a round that got away from me but it didn't," Mickelson told Sky Sports

"I did not take advantage of the easy holes going out, I really struggled. Coming back in it was very difficult into the wind but I was able to play at even par. You just have to get the ball in the hole.

"It's a great opportunity, a great challenge. Henrik is playing really good golf and I'm going to have to go and shoot a good number."

Well, the weather's looking better tomorrow. Though if you're Colin Montgomerie out early in the morning then you might want to take a brolly. But Monty's used to the Troon climate, of course.

It should be dry from 09:00 BST, and there'll even be a touch of sun for those heading out in the afternoon, if they're lucky.

American Bill Haas, 34, will be hoping the top two slip-up on Sunday as he is third on six under.

Speaking to BBC Radio 5 live, Haas said: "We got the better end of the deal, this morning looked difficult.

"I haven't knocked on the door at majors many times, so it is nice to be in the mix and I am up for the challenge.

"I know my family are proud of what I am doing, I am proud of them. They are pulling for me back home."

Haas is the son of former PGA Tour player Jay Haas.

Republic of Ireland's Shane Lowry, who did not make the cut after being seven over after two rounds, is another player praising the current leader Henrik Stenson.

Phil Mickelson, speaking to BBC Radio 5 live: "It was a day when I didn't have my best day, My rhythm was out of sorts. I am looking forward to the opportunity tomorrow.

"Henrik and I have played a lot more holes together over the years in Ryder Cups and majors. I enjoy playing with him, I respect him and we will have a good final round.

"Tomorrow I have to get my rhythm back, play like I did the first couple of days and shoot a good score."

Rory McIlroy is tied 18th on level par after three rounds, and a frustrating day for him saw him smash his three wood after a poor shot on the 16th fairway.

He has been telling a press conference why he did it.

"I had let one go right on the previous hole with a three iron and it was just a bad swing," said McIlroy.

"No-one likes to make the same mistake twice and that's what happened."

Will this year be Henrik Stenson's revenge? 

The Swede finished second to Phil Mickelson at Muirfield in the 2013 Open Championship when Lefty birdied four of the last six holes to win by three shots and collect his only Claret Jug. 

Stenson is still waiting for a major title...

He's been in the mix plenty of times, but this is new ground for the 40-year-old who has never led the field at this stage of a major before. It's all to play for on the final day at Troon.

Third-round leader Henrik Stenson is understandably delighted. He tells Sky Sports: "You want to get a few birdies in early and it was a fast start, then I had a couple of wobbles on five and eight.

"But I played a really solid last six or seven holes into the wind.

"I'm playing really nicely and I know Phil will not back off, he is one of the finest players to have played in the last 50 years but I'm right where I want to be."

When Phil Mickelson picked his ball out of the hole there was no eye contact made with Henrik Stenson, normally they say 'well played', but there was nothing there.  

Great play by both players on a very difficult day, they do shake hands and you can see they enjoy playing against each other and will look forward to battling against each other tomorrow.

So Phil Mickelson pops that putt in from three or four foot to make par and card 70 for the third round, one under for the day.

In front of the grandstand, Henrik Stenson has about half that distance to contend with and makes no mistake. He cards 68 for the day's play.

That means the Swede is the leader heading in to the final day at Royal Troon. Mickelson trails by one stroke, and both will be venturing out alongside one another again tomorrow.

Plenty of wet sand on Phil Mickelson's ball, but that doesn't bother the American. He's straight into the bunker and fires through the sand to power it on to the green and leave him several feet from the flag.

Henrik Stenson bumps his on from the side and that stops around a foot closer to the cup than his playing partner's.

The American press, used to the surly post-round interview-room manner of some British golfers, have particularly taken to chirpy 27-year-old Londoner Andrew Johnston.

But their line of questioning that he might be a bit of a 'salad dodger', when asking about the size of the pizza he'd had, got perhaps a bit too personal at one point.

One asked: "How much do you weigh?"

A surprised but nonetheless sportingly unflustered Johnston brought the house down and shut the interviewer up by replying: "I don't know. Do you want to pick me up?"
