  1. Spieth starts well, then it all goes wrongpublished at 12:24 British Summer Time 16 July 2016

    Spieth +5 (17)

Two-time major winner Jordan Spieth certainly started well. He was four over after two rounds, but quickly pulled it back to level par today after birdies on the first, third, sixth and seventh.

But then, as often happens to golfers at Royal Troon, it all went wrong - and in some style with four dropped shots in three holes, the ninth, 10th and 11th.

The 11th, the dreaded Railway hole, saw him at one stage wedged up against a stone wall, before sending his chip all the way over the green and into the rough on his way to a double bogey six. He then dropped another at the 15th.

This video below shows happier times for Spieth, with his birdie on the first.

So, Haydn Porteous is back in the hut with a -3 to his name for Saturday's play, putting the South African on one over for the championship.

American Brandt Snedeker and Belgium's Nicolas Colsaerts have also made moves this morning, sitting three under so far for the day and at +1 and E respectively.

World number one Jason Day (-1) is two under through five, while England's Justin Rose (+1) has also already clawed two shots back in this third round.

Thongchai Jaidee (+1) is the other player on two under for the day, he's also through 11.

  4. All to play forpublished at 12:18 British Summer Time 16 July 2016

    David Leadbetter
Leading golf coach on BBC Radio 5 live

You can go down to maybe level par, one-under, to have a chance.

It's possible someone can shoot a 65, 66 and get right back in the mix.

  5. Clubhouse leaderpublished at 12:17 British Summer Time 16 July 2016

    Porteous +1 (18)

So what of today's action so far? If you are already playing, then your chances of winning on Sunday are slim to say the least.

Nevertheless, South Africa's Haydn Porteous, ranked 249th in the world, is the clubhouse third-round leader on one-over.

He was the first man out at 08:25 and played by himself.

It was an excellent round by the 22-year-old who started the day on five-over but carded a three-under 68.

That included seven birdies and he was on track to make it into the red overall, until a double bogey on the 18th.

  8. Pin positionspublished at 12:12 British Summer Time 16 July 2016

More on this morning's pin and tee adjustments, R&A director of rule Grant Moir says the third hole has been moved to "give more green to work with".

"The back nine, when the wind is coming in and across, it is more likely we will move the tees up. I think we will move the 11th tee up for sure," he added on Sky Sports.

"The fifth green is exposed on the coastline and the 17th green sits high and flat so they are the greens we have been watching."

  9. 'Gusts of 30mph'published at 12:10 British Summer Time 16 July 2016

With winds forecast to gust up to 30mph, tournament organisers the R&A have decided to keep the speed of the greens down and move some tees and pin positions.

A statement from the R&A read: "The weather forecast is for 15-25mph winds with gusts of up to 30mph throughout the day.

"Following our early morning set-up process, we have decided not to cut or roll the greens and certain pins and tees are being adjusted."

  10. Today's forecastpublished at 12:08 British Summer Time 16 July 2016

Now this is going to be a test. There won't be any 63s today (probably).

The weather is set to get worse at Royal Troon as the day goes on, with the rain expected to come with the leaders out early in their third rounds.

And with blustery conditions as well, we may well be seeing a much-changing leaderboard today.

  11. Lovely day for golf?published at 12:07 British Summer Time 16 July 2016

What will Mickelson have to deal with today? A gentle breeze? A bit of sun? Not exactly.

  12. Stress-free Mickelsonpublished at 12:06 British Summer Time 16 July 2016

    Mickelson -10

Following up his record-equalling 63 with a second-round 69 to hold the clubhouse lead on Friday night, Phil Mickelson is certainly enjoying life at Royal Troon so far this week.

Lefty heads out at 15:20 BST on Saturday.

"I played kind of stress-free golf again," he said.

"I don't feel the pressure like probably a lot of players do to try to win the Claret Jug because I've already won it.

"The desire to capture that Claret Jug puts a lot of pressure on. The fact I've done it relieves some of that. I would love to add to it, but having already done that was big."

  13. Day opens wellpublished at 12:04 British Summer Time 16 July 2016

    Day -1 (4)

Jason Day has started his third round promisingly, he's two under already for the day after two birdies in his first four holes.

A long way to climb for the world number one, though, who started his week at Royal Troon with a two over par 73 on Thursday before clawing two strokes back yesterday.

  14. Will Mickelson be celebrating on Sunday?published at 12:04 British Summer Time 16 July 2016

So Phil Mickelson holds the lead after the opening two rounds at Royal Troon. But history says it is not going to be easy for him to stay out in front and to be celebrating on Sunday.

The Open has been held at Royal Troon eight times and only Havers (1923), Palmer (1962) and Weiskopf (1973) have lifted the Claret Jug after being ahead following two rounds.
