  1. Ball lost...published at 16:43 British Summer Time 23 July 2017

    McIlroy (-4 after 14) Day (+1)

Rory McIlroy's ball is lost on 15, that's confirmed. His mark at four under is now under threat. He hits his fourth now from the rough and finds sand near the green.

Jason Day strokes home a short par putt on 18 to end the day one over and one over for the tournament.

  2. Spieth's putting green incidentpublished at 16:41 British Summer Time 23 July 2017

    Spieth (-8), Kuchar (-8)

Were hearing from BBC Radio 5 live's Alistair Bruce-Ball about an incident on the pracitce putting green ahead of Jordan Spieth's round.

Spieth was apparently practicing his putts when a fan came over for an autograph, but instead of getting a souvenir, they sprayed the American with a can of silly string.

    Silly indeed.

    Koepka (-4, after 11)

    Four is the magic number.

There are currently seven players tied for fourth place at four under out there. Brooks Koepka is one of them.

He scrambles another par at 11 after some off piste action. The American is hanging on in there.

  4. Pars for Spieth and Kucharpublished at 16:40 British Summer Time 23 July 2017

    Spieth (-8), Kuchar (-8)

Two putts apiece for Kuchar and Spieth on the 10th green, a minimum of fuss from both men.

Wondering what has got into Spieth's head today? We *might* have the answer....

  5. That's ugly!published at 16:40 British Summer Time 23 July 2017

    McIlroy (-4 after 14)

Shot tracker applied to the tee shot Rory McIlroy just hit on the par-five 15th. That ball is way, way, way off the fairway. A wild hook. He tried hitting the paint off the ball on this hole where birdie is key. He'll do well to make par now...

Americans Pat Perez and Will McGirt on the rangeImage source, BBC Sport

A couple of Americans who missed the cut decided not to cut their losses and head straight back across the pond.

Perhaps with one eye on next year's Open at Carnoustie, Pat Perez and William McGirt are getting a bit more seaside golf in on the range.

  7. WATCH: Kuchar's precise approachpublished at 16:39 British Summer Time 23 July 2017

Matt Kuchar has two birdies so far today. Here is his fine approach on the par-four second.

    Cabrera-Bello (-4, after 13)

That's lovely hands from Rafa Cabrera-Bello. The Spaniard guides a chip from the a bank at the back of the 13th green towards the flag and it runs narrowly wide.

    He'll settle for par.

    Spieth (-8), Kuchar (-8)

The powers that be have told Spieth and Kuchar to get a shift on. They are not officially clock-watching yet, but the American pair don't want to fall foul of the slow play rule. A two-stroke penalty could be invoked...

They both get a wriggle on, spanking their second shots from opposite flanks of the fairway onto the dancefloor.

  10. Casey in the clubhousepublished at 16:35 British Summer Time 23 July 2017

    Casey (-3)

Paul Casey's Open weekend is finished.

He goes oh-so-close to shooting a fourth birdie on the trot but the Englishman's attempt at the 18th stays up.

Successive rounds of 67 for Casey, who turned 40 on Friday, and he finishes on three under.

Wayne Rooney is settling back into life on Merseyside as he's in attendance with Gareth Barry, Phil Jagielka, Michael Keane and Leighton Baines. They'd make a cool boy band would they not? And Rooney loves a bit of karaoke. Any name ideas for the five-strong group? #bbcgolf.

    Stenson (-2, after 12)

Has someone thrown paint over Henrik Stenson's shirt?

The defending champion looks like he's stopped to fix an oil spill on his way to the Royal Birkdale this morning.

Perhaps they're fashionable flecks... anyway, birdies are certainly in fashion for Stenson at the minute as he cards two in a row to move back to two under after a flurry of bogeys this morning.

They have both missed the fairway and they are not playing socialable golf.

Kuchar missed his drive to right into the crowd and Spieth went into the left and carried the bunkers but he is in the thick rough.

  14. Postpublished at 16:31 British Summer Time 23 July 2017

    Spieth (-8), Kuchar (-8)

Jordan Spieth and Matt Kuchar have parted ways on the 10th. Kuchar lumps his drive way right, over the line of spectators onto a dried-out plot of land. As good as the fairway that.

Spieth goes the opposite way. "Where's the wind?" he moans. Not sure a hurricane would have brought that one back.

  15. Postpublished at 16:31 British Summer Time 23 July 2017

    Noren (-4 after 15) McIlroy (-4 after 14)

Alex Noren finds trouble on 15, he's in the bunker after three shots on this par five. The sand is now damp as the rain drizzles a touch. He digs through it and that's a very good out by the Swede. The ball breaks around the hole to leave maybe six feet for par. Rory McIlroy is birdie chasing on 14 but the putt snakes away. To Noren, wipes his putter head, waggles, settles, drains it. Stays at four under.

  16. Postpublished at 16:28 British Summer Time 23 July 2017

    Koepka (-4, after 10)

    Brooks Koepka is lingering.

Birdie, par, par gets him back on track after an earlier bogey, and the American sends a swinging drive at the 11th curling to the left of the green where it avoids a set of bunkers but nestles on a bank covered in some coarse longer grass.

What can he do from here?

    McIlroy (-4 after 13) Grace (-4 after 10)

Rory McIlroy takes seven iron on 14, straight down the stick, 15ft left for birdie. The kid is in fine form here. There'll be no birdie for Branden Grace on 11, he'll have to produce two solid putts from somewhere near Leeds to make par.

As for Andrew Johnston, he's walking the 18th. First though, the Beef man has another lookalike according to the BBC Sport audience...
