  1. Stormy weather?published at 16:07 British Summer Time 10 August 2017

Another potential delay for us might come because of the weather and the perennial threat to US golf tournaments from thunderstorms. Looks like we'll have a drop or two. But let's ask an expert, here's the lowdown from the BBC Weather department.

    Rachael Adshead, BBC weather forecaster:

"At the moment it is dry though mainly cloudy in Charlotte, North Carolina, maximum temperatures today will reach around 28C. Winds are light south easterlies and we’re not expecting that to change much. So all in all, it’s a fairly decent day to be outside.

"From this evening and over the weekend we’ll introduce a risk of some showers, some of these could be on the heavy side perhaps with some thunder, though there will be some sunny spells in between them. Winds will remain light."

  2. The Green Mile to finishpublished at 16:05 British Summer Time 10 August 2017

Quail Hollow finishes with the notorious "Green Mile", three holes (par four, three and four) totalling 1,225 yards.

Those three holes will comprise the play-off if we do not have a clear winner after 72 holes on Sunday.

If two or more players are still tied after the three play-off holes, it will become sudden death, something those of us who have a drive home in excess of 250 miles after the tournament do not wish to dwell on.

  3. No gentle openerpublished at 16:02 British Summer Time 10 August 2017

It's going to be quite a tough examination paper this week in North Carolina though, with renowned architect Tom Fazio orchestrating some tweaks to the course. For instance, the first hole has been extended to 524 yards...and that's for a par four!

Not surprisingly it's the longest par four in the major championships. There are two par threes on each nine and the par fives are holes 7, 10 and 15.

The par 71 layout measures 7,600 yards and the longest hole is the 592-yard par four 10th.

  4. In good companypublished at 16:01 British Summer Time 10 August 2017

Only 18 days after that dramatic victory at The Open, world number two Spieth, who has since turned the ripe old age of 24, can become the youngest player to win all four big ones and would join a pretty impressive - and very exclusive - club if he does so.

Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player and Tiger Woods (who was also 24) are the only men to have done it thus far. There are a few birdies in that quintet...
