So that's about it for the opening round of the US PGA Championship from Quail Hollow, North Carolina. Rory reached two under before dropping back to plus one, five off the first day lead. He has an early start on Friday, from the 10th tee, and is off at 08:25 local time, 13:25 BST.

Just before we leave you, here is a look back at the shots of the day.

Wiltshire's Jordan Smith has completed an excellent one under 70, recovering superbly from a double bogey at the first hole and he is in a share of 15th place after the first day.

A reminder that Andrew "Beef" Johnston withdrew due to a shoulder injury after his 78 and we have another who will not be with us tomorrow, Si Woo Kim has pulled out because of a back problem following his 79.

Some thoughts from joint leader Kevin Kisner, who is asked if Quail Hollow is a "bomber's" (long hitters) course: "I think almost every course we play is a bomber's course.

"But I don't care how far they hit it, the rough is brutal and I wouldn't want to be in, it the greens are so firm it's difficult to hold it."

A one-over par 72 was not bad overall for Rory McIlroy. The afternoon players had it slightly tougher, with the wind getting up.

The greens were super fast. Judging the line and pace was tricky.

There were three other birdies and he reached two under for the Championship before dropping a shot at the par three 13th - he bogeyed all three short holes in fact (if you can call a 259-yard par three a short hole).

Then there was this three wood tee shot into the water at the 14th for a double bogey, but he parred his way in and will be five shots off the lead going into round two.

He didn't need the putter to pick up his first birdie of the day, with this delicate chip dropping into the cup at the third.

Let's have a look back at Rory's one over 72 and, as you might expect, he hit some tumultuous drives.

Rory McIlroy speaking to BBC Sport: "If someone told me I would shoot one-over-par this morning I probably wouldn't have taken it but the course played tricky. It would have been nice to shoot under par but I played a three hole stretch on the back nine three over par. That was the only thing that derailed my round. I was expecting to play that under par.

"I have got chance tomorrow morning to get the shots back."

We have joint leaders because American Kevin Kisner has birdied the formidable 18th with a curling putt from 18 feet or so and the 33-year-old joins Thorbjorn Olesen at four under.

Indian Anirban Lahiri almost finds the perfect finish on the 9th hole (his 18th) with this approach.

Veteran American DA Points has got to three under and has sent his approach pin high at the par four eighth, his 17th. One of the few remaining British players out there is Jordan Smith, the Wiltshire player who won his first European Tour title at the European Open last month and the 24-year-old is a creditable one under with a couple left.

Dinner won't taste good for Justin Rose. He thought he had rolled that difficult putt at the last in but it missed on the left edge and then he pushed the return putt to the right. He finishes with a five over 76.

So much was talked about the course alterations. It hasn't been the holes so much, but the change of the grass in the greens has caused a tremendous amount of problems.

Now world number 25 Kevin Kisner has moved quietly up to three under, only one behind clubhouse leader Thorbjorn Olesen, and his tee shot just creeps over the water at the par three 17th, trickling into the heart of the green.
