  2. One to watchpublished at 17:58 British Summer Time 10 August 2017

Japanese sensation Hideki Matsuyama comes into the Championship in red hot form. The world number three carded a nine-under-par 61 to win the Bridgestone Invitational by five shots in Ohio.

Matsuyama, 25, who started two shots behind Zach Johnson and Thomas Pieters, sunk an eagle and seven birdies to equal thecourse record at Akron.

Victory continues a fine run of form for Matsuyama since the end of last year. This was his sixth win in his past 20 starts - during which time he has also managed four top-five finishes and five more top-25 placings.

He started at the 10th and birdied his first two holes but three consecutive bogeys on his back nine leave him at one over with two to play.

Andrew Neill: Could do with Casey getting another birdie before he finishes. Otherwise in great shape. Looking forward to watching Rory later!!!

  8. Another slip for Spiethpublished at 17:43 British Summer Time 10 August 2017

    Spieth +3 (15)

It is indeed another dropped shot for Spieth and he has seen four shots dwindle away in the last nine. Sergio comes closes to another birdie, his 25-foot effort brushes the left edge of the cup but fails to drop and he stays plus four.

  9. Postpublished at 17:37 British Summer Time 10 August 2017

I do love the apex calculator on the ball tracking and I'm looking forward to seeing how high Rory takes it later. Spieth's tee shot is measured at 117 feet at the 259-yard par three but he doesn't like it and it is short of the dance floor. He takes the putter but it has raced eight feet by so another shot could go.

  10. Spieth strugglingpublished at 17:31 British Summer Time 10 August 2017

    Spieth +2 (14)

Another one goes for The Open champion though. Jordan Spieth barely touched that putt from eight feet and it drifts agonisingly to the left of the cup. It's a birdie for playing partner Brooks Koepka though, rolling one in from 15 feet, and the US Open winner is back to one under with four holes to play.

  12. Birdie for Sergiopublished at 17:29 British Summer Time 10 August 2017

    Garcia +4 (14)

What a putt from the Masters champion with that claw grip. It looked as though it was going to run out of gas but it just dropped into the cup from around 25 feet and his third birdie of the day gets him back to four over.

A third American shares the lead at three under as world number 91 Grayson Murray birdies the 17th to join Woodland and Herman.

  14. Beef birdiespublished at 17:17

    Johnston +2 (8)

A lot of people will be keen to know how the Beef is getting on. I'm not sure how many of those cries we will hear, I hope not too many because I find them rather tiresome myself, same as the Root ones for the England cricket captain, but the big fella Andrew 'Beef' Johnston has just collected his first birdie of the day. It was timely as he made a double bogey at his second and was three over after his first four.

  15. Garcia not in the groovepublished at 17:13 British Summer Time 10 August 2017

    Garcia +5 (13)

Sergio's all in black (or is it dark navy?) today and it's a fairly sombre tale thus far, with those six shots going in four holes. His tee shot at the par three fourth plummeted into the bunker but a delightful splash out was sent close to the flag and he holed out from three feet to remain five over.

  19. Birdie putt missed by Spiethpublished at 17:02 British Summer Time 10 August 2017

    Spieth +1 (12)

These greens look difficult. The course is pretty wet but a lot of work has gone into drying out the putting surfaces which has made for some quick putts.

Jordan Spieth has another on the third, his 12th hole of the day, but the ball just stays wide of the right-side of the cup. That was lengthy but make-able.

The American mops up the par putt to stay one over.

  20. From dives to drivespublished at 16:58 British Summer Time 10 August 2017

A certain US Olympic swimming legend has been spotted out on the course following his compatriot Jordan Spieth today...
