Our leader Patrick Reed casually swings through a nine-iron on the ninth, all rhythm, finding the heart of the green to the delight of the patrons horseshoed around it.

    C Hoffman -5 (8)

It was all going swimmingly for Charley Hoffman, but now the baseball-capped American finds himself nestled among the pine at nine.

He's got a decent lie, though, and Hoffman leathers one up towards the flag, just avoiding a bunker to come to a rest above the green.

    T Woods +4, M Leishman -5, T Fleetwood +1 (10)

Marc Leishman is still in the groove. The Australian has still not dropped a shot through a round and a half and it looks like he has no intention of doing that now.

He spanks a 312-yard drive down the middle, outflanked moments later by Fleetwood, while Woods crashes his into the branches on the right.

  5. 'I got a little brain dead'published at 21:41 British Summer Time 6 April 2018

    J Spieth -4

Here's Jordan Spieth, who headed into day two with a two-stroke lead at six under par before a 74 on Friday dropped him to four under: "The ultimate goal of each round here at Augusta National is to get to the eighth tee at even par. I tried to look at as I had got through the tough stretch and there was an opportunity to get it back.

"When I three-putted the eighth it was a bummer. It was frustrating. I just hit it everywhere where you can't hit it, and I typically don't do that out here.

"I got a little brain dead, but to still be in the tournament after two rounds is nice. Not being in the lead could bode well for me. I'm going to have to drive the ball better tomorrow if it's going to be windy and rainy."

    D Johnson -3, J Rose -2, R Cabrera-Bello E (18)

Dustin Johnson is lurking ominously. The world number one finishes off his second round with a birdie on the last, moving him to three under and four shots behind leader Patrick Reed.

Playing partner Justin Rose grimaces after narrowly missing a birdie putt of his own, ending with a two-under 70.

Rafa Cabrera-Bello was one of the many who had a share of the lead at one stage, only to fade on the back half.

  7. Birdie for Hoffmanpublished at 21:37 British Summer Time 6 April 2018

    C Hoffman -5 (8)

Charley Hoffman sees what his compatriot Patrick Reed is doing and thinks "I'll have a bit of that".

The American slides a birdie putt home from 10 feet to move to five under for a slice of second place.

  8. Birdie for Reedpublished at 21:34 British Summer Time 6 April 2018

    P Reed -7 (8)

Patrick Reed is flying here. He makes the green of the par-five eighth in two, and is 50 feet from the pin.

A great chance to extend his lead for the American... he rolls that eagle putt up the slope, back down the other side and it comes to a rest a whisper from the cup.

Reed rolls it in to make birdie and move to seven under.

  9. Birdie for Stensonpublished at 21:27 British Summer Time 6 April 2018

    H Stenson -4 (8)

Henrik Stenson has a chance for eagle at the eighth. The Swede coaxes it towards the cup from 33 feet, but it's a tad too strong. Stenson's within a putter's length of the pin, and pops in for birdie.

    That's four under.

Another par-saver from the world number one. Dustin's diggin' in when it matters. Johnson found the green in three, but was left with a nine-foot putt for par. Swish, he drops it right in.

The American is out alongside Justin Rose, who chalks off another par of his own to remain at two under.

A round of two halves for overnight leader Jordan Spieth. Out in 40, back in 34. And it could have been even better for the 2015 champion.

A birdie putt on the last squirts down the right, prompting an angry wave of the American's right hand inquiring why it didn't turn.

Either way he must be delighted to have fought back and have dibs on the clubhouse lead with Rory McIlroy.

    P Reed -6 (7)

Patrick Reed's tee shot on the seventh was perfect, his approach caught the edge of the green to leave him a 13-foot putt for par.

He's only gone and made it. Catching the run of the green, the American sinks his birdie putt to take the outright lead.

  18. 'I'm a little frustrated'published at 21:08 British Summer Time 6 April 2018

    R McIlroy -4 (18)

Here is Rory McIlroy after his second-round 71 took him to four under: "It was OK. I played really well on the back nine, made three really good pars and had chances all the way in. So I'm a little frustrated I'm not, say, seven under, but anything under par was pretty good.

"The wind is not up that much, but it's enough to make it really tricky and the pin positions were tough, so it's hard to get it close."

    C Hoffman -4 (6)

Charley Hoffman is quietly doing bits. The American shrugged off a bogey at the first by snatching a shot back at the second, and then fired another birdie at the par-four fifth.

It leaves him four under for the tournament, one off the lead.
