This hole is a stout par three that requires a long iron and is often made harder by deceptive winds. Two bunkers, front right and front left, guard the green, which slopes back to the front.

The green was originally shaped like a boomerang. It's now a bit wider, the bend slightly less extreme. But the hole remains an elusive target.

  3. Bogey for Rahmpublished at 20:28 British Summer Time 8 April 2018

    R Fowler -9, J Rahm -9 (4)

Disappointing for Jon Rahm. Having just birdied the third to move within three shots of Patrick Reed's lead, he can't scramble back quickly enough after a tee shot that found the bunker and two putts for a bogey at the fourth.

  4. Birdie for Caseypublished at 20:26 British Summer Time 8 April 2018

    P Casey -6 (14)

    Birdie. Birdie. Eagle. Birdie.

Paul Casey continues to steamroller his way through Augusta...

He's the first person since Constantino Rocca in 1997 to play holes 11-14 in such a way. He's eight under for his round - 63, or nine under, is the course record...

  5. Birdie for Reed, bogey for McIlroypublished at 20:25 British Summer Time 8 April 2018

    P Reed -14, R McIlroy -11 (3)

McIlroy, standing at the bottom of the 10-foot bank, dinks a chip into the top of the incline, using to cushion the ball and letting it run up to the hole. The ball refuses to stick on the brakes, ending up 10 feet past. That's not dead...

Reed rattles his birdie putt towards the hole with the pace of a runaway HGV, hitting the can and disappearing underground.

Chance for a two-shot swing... McIlroy's not made it. Back to where we were at the start.

    R Fowler -9, J Rahm -10 (3)

Rickie Fowler watches Jon Rahm stick his tee shot in the green-side bunker at four and proceeds to pitch his straight on to the dancefloor.

The red-topped Rahm dinks out of the sand, but his ball digs in on the green and leaves the Spaniard some 26 feet to salvage par.

McIlroy pitches up to the third green .. about 130 yards away. Right hand comes off his grip as a worried look watches his ball. Ball thumps against the bank on the front of the green, dribbling back down. Not good.

Reed is up on the dancefloor, well, just on the fringe at the back actually. A tricky left-to-right putt awaits.

  8. Birdie for Rahmpublished at 20:18 British Summer Time 8 April 2018

    R Fowler -9, J Rahm -10 (3)

Jon Rahm is making sure his name is part of the final-day conversation.

The Spaniard crouches over his birdie putt, adjusts his grey slacks with one hand and steadies his putter, before rolling in from five feet.

Never in doubt. A second successive birdie moves him to 10 under - just three off the lead.

The shortest par four on the course... Rory McIlroy goes with an iron, punching a low tee-shot down the middle.

Patrick Reed goes with a similar club selection, knocking his tee shot next door, just over the garden fence, to neighbour McIlroy's.

A classic short par four. Players attempt to hit short of the four fairway bunkers, resulting in a full shot to the green, where it is better to be long than short. The putting surface slopes right to left, with a thin neck on the left side guarded by a bunker.

No matter how confident you are - and Reed is not short of confidence - you can't stop the thoughts rushing through your brain. That's what makes the game so fascinating.

  13. Eagle for Caseypublished at 20:13 British Summer Time 8 April 2018

    P Casey -5 (13)

Paul Casey began the day at two over - he's down to FIVE under through 13!

The Englishman is flying, playing at seven under so far for his final round after making an eagle at the 13th.

That followed successive birdies at 11 and 12, and a couple on the front nine to boot.

Reed goes first... pushing it past the left side of the hole. That's a five for the American. Rory for a share of the lead... the crowd groan.. the ball veers off right and slips by.

He makes no mistake with his birdie putt. That's two knocked off Reed's lead already. What a start for McIlroy!

Can Rory heap some more pressure on Reed? He goes with a long iron... he likes it. The crowd love it! McIlroy lands in the top right of the green - where the flag is - sidling the ball up to within four feet. Eagle o'clock for Rory...

Reed splashes out and gives himself a fighting chance of a birdie...

  17. Birdie for Spiethpublished at 20:08 British Summer Time 8 April 2018

    J Thomas -5, J Spieth -8 (5)

I hope Jordan Spieth's packed his oven gloves, that putter is seriously hot right now.

The American laid his 207-yard approach up to three feet from the flag and then fizzed it in with oomph.

That's three birdies in his opening five today.

Patrick Reed has first dibs on the second hole. Looks a hell of a way down there. Probably two hybrids for me and thee. The thickset American thinks he can get there with a fairway wood. He gives it a good thump... it gets swallowed up by the bunker guarding the front of the green. Shaky start for our leader...

A three-shot lead can evaporate in a shot. Then it could be a matchplay shootout on the back nine which I guess we all want to see.
