So, after five holes of this final round, that three-shot lead for Patrick Reed remains as they go to the sixth. We've already had twists and turns, thrills and spills and, like a rollercoaster, we're back at the start. Shall we jump on again?

  2. Bogey for McIlroypublished at 20:52 British Summer Time 8 April 2018

    P Reed -14, R McIlroy -11 (5)

Reed doesn't give his first putt enough juice, leaving it a few feet short.

Back to Rory... he's missed it. He's barely blinked on a tiddler all week, now that's two in three holes.

No such problems for Reed, who converts for a solid par four.

  3. Double bogey for Rosepublished at 20:52 British Summer Time 8 April 2018

    J Rose -4 (9)

Justin Rose looked to have dug his pickaxe out and begun climbing his way back up the leaderboard, but a double bogey at the ninth has knocked the Englishman down a boulder or two.

Three birdies on the front nine for Rose before that blip. He sits at four under.

No such problems for Reed. He is safely onto the fifth green. But does it have the legs to get over the slope running across the putting surface? Yep. A heck of a birdie putt awaits though.

McIlroy is about five feet below where the hole has been cut on the top deck, but makes it look easy with a delicate dink. He's five foot away from the hole, coming back in from the back.

    P Casey -7 (16)

Paul Casey digs into his bag of trick shots and pulls out a remarkable chip from the bunker that looks to have fizzed too far before clicking into reverse and dribbling back towards the cup.

The Englishman taps in to save par after a superb run of four birdies and an eagle.

Patrick Reed blasts his drive over the trees on the fifth, landing on the fairway just to the right of the two bunkers on the left.

McIlroy to go first... "Awww, get left, get left," shouts his caddie. Needs to get forward too. McIlroy short of the green.

  9. Bogey for Fowlerpublished at 20:43 British Summer Time 8 April 2018

    R Fowler -8, J Rahm -9 (5)

Rickie Fowler's round is in danger of unravelling on the fifth.

Having popped an approach way beyond the pin, he flashes a recovery shot a long way back past it the other way.

A 66-foot par putt fails to drop. A nervy putt for bogey to come. He sinks it.

An uphill, dogleg left to a sloping green. The fairway bunkers are deep and positioned to demand accuracy off the tee. To clear them requires a carry of 315 yards. The green slopes back to the front, and a rear bunker catches balls hit too long.

This hole was inspired by the legendary Road Hole at the Old Course at St. Andrews. Bobby Jones initially disapproved of the fairway bunkers.

    P Reed -14, R McIlroy -12 (4)

Only the one birdie between Rory McIlroy and Patrick Reed on the fifth this week. McIlroy didn't grab that - it was Reed yesterday - the Northern Irishman aims to change that by thumping his drive down the right side of the fairway. Ball threatens to run off the fairway into the first cut but grinds to halt just in the nick of time.

  12. Birdie for Caseypublished at 20:40 British Summer Time 8 April 2018

    P Casey -7 (15)

Paul Casey has an eagle putt that could take him to 10 under for his round... he's chasing the course record of 63.

The Englishman tickles it up besides the pin from long range. In this form, that should be a simple putt for birdie - it is.

Nick Price set the Augusta record of 63 in 1986, and it was equalled by Greg Norman 10 years later.

  15. Birdie for McIlroypublished at 20:35 British Summer Time 8 April 2018

    P Reed -14, R McIlroy -12 (4)

Not a great opening putt from Reed, who sees his uphill putt get dragged off to the left. Here's a test of his nerves. A nasty left to right slider awaits for the three, his shadow getting in the way of his line just to further complicate matters. I hate that. It doesn't bother Reed though, who slams in for the par.

Can Rory get a slice of the twos sweep? Yes he can. That's only the 18th birdie there all week - the second lowest tally on the course.

    R Fowler -9, J Rahm -9 (4)

Ooo. That didn't look too good for Rickie Fowler, the American's approach at five dashing way beyond the green and disappearing into the shrubbery... It'll take some rescuing.

  17. Stat attack...published at 20:32 British Summer Time 8 April 2018

    P Casey -6 (14)

How about this for a stat. Paul Casey is the first player to go birdie, birdie, eagle, birdie through 11-14 since Costantino Rocca in 1997, when the Italian finished tied for fifth.

The hole isn't elusive for Rory McIlroy! The four-time major winner nails his tee-shot, ending up three feet from the pin and walking down with birdie signs lighting up in his eyes.

Reed has a longer effort with the putter after his ball clings on with dear life to the front of the green.
