    McIlroy +7 (6)

Rory McIlroy is playing solidly, but not spectacularly. And he needs something spectacular.

A par on six is followed by a wayward tee shot on seven.

  2. Rose comfortable with Open expectationpublished at 16:53 British Summer Time 19 July 2019

    Rose -6 (F)

Justin Rose: "I'm probably one of the best players in the world and there should be expectation when you're in contention to be able to continue to play well in that situation.

"But is there too much expectation? No, I don't think so. I think I should go out and be who I am and be comfortable with it tomorrow.

"I don't think there's any more expectation from outside than I have for myself."

  3. First bogey of the day for Lowrypublished at 16:53 British Summer Time 19 July 2019

    Lowry -9 (14)

Make that Frittelli two off the lead.

Shane Lowry's par putt lips out on the 14th and the Irishman drops a shot.

  4. Frittelli three off the leadpublished at 16:52 British Summer Time 19 July 2019

    Frittelli -7 (12)

Dylan Frittelli has his eyes on the prize now. Eyes which are hidden behind some curious glasses. They kind of look like the ones you get given when you go to a 3D film.

The South African made a huge putt for birdie on the 11th, but his eagle effort pulls up painfully short on the 12th. Still another birdie, though.

    Lowry -10 (13)

Shane Lowry has to give his birdie putt a big slap on the 14th. He's a long way out.

    It's still not enough, though.

  6. 'I didn't do very well'published at 16:46 British Summer Time 19 July 2019

    Woods +6 (F)

    Tiger WoodsImage source, Reuters

Tiger Woods: "It's more frustrating than anything else because this is a major championship and I love playing in these events.

"I love the atmosphere. I love just the stress of playing in a major. Unfortunately, I've only had a chance to win one of them and was able to do it. But the other three I didn't do very well."

    Lowry -10 (13)

"Sit down," says Lowry as he chops the ball out of the rough.

It lands on the right of the 14th green. He'll get a go at a birdie putt.

Sport is so cruel. This week has meant so much to Darren Clarke; he has been a tour guide for some of the world's best golfers this week and an ambassador for this championships, but he is exiting after the most awful end to his round. That is just utter misery.

That should have been a wonderful moment for Clarke to enjoy the crowd's cheers on the 18th but it's just utter, utter dejection.

  10. Clarke set to miss cut after triple bogeypublished at 16:40 British Summer Time 19 July 2019

    Clarke +3 (F)

    Triple ouch.

Darren Clarke's bogey putt comes up short.

And things go from bad to worse as his next putt edges to the right of the hole. That's probably the last we'll see of him this week with the projected cut at +1.

    Lowry -10 (13)

Shane Lowry has holed some very impressive birdie putts today - a little like this one.

He's just landed in the long grass on the 14th, though.

A big sigh and a shake or the head from Rory McIlroy as his birdie putt goes begging. When you’re hot, they drop.

There was a collective sigh of disappointment too from the rain-drenched fans who’ve waited all day in the same spot to see their charge.

  13. Clarke could miss cutpublished at 16:35 British Summer Time 19 July 2019

    Clarke level (17)

    Uh oh....

Darren Clarke has made a bit of a mess of the par-four 18th and is at risk of missing the cut.

It's projected at +1 at the moment and Clarke is level so far, but has just hit his fourth shot quite far out on the right of the green.

That doesn't stop the crowd whooping and cheering at his arrival.

  14. McIlroy misses birdie shot at fivepublished at 16:34 British Summer Time 19 July 2019

    McIlroy +7 (5)

    Argh!

Those are the ones that Rory McIlroy needs to drop if he is to have any hope of making it to the weekend.

Instead his birdie putt on the fifth does a little tightrope twirl around the rim and stays up.

  15. Frittelli on the charge?published at 16:33 British Summer Time 19 July 2019

    Frittelli -6 (11)

Dylan Frittelli is making moves on the back nine.

He sinks a huge putt to make it back-to-back birdies on 10 and 11.

The South African is fourth of the lead.

It’s been all fun and games over in the Swing Zone!

Tim Henman and Brian O’Driscoll have been down to see Rory, a 14-year-old with cerebral palsy who is a very keen golfer.

They tried the ‘Rory Challenge’, put on by The Golf Foundation - a series of games holding the club using one hand - safe to say Rory beat them both!
