Lee Westwood undercooks a birdie chance at six, but takes par and remains clear in third place ahead of Rickie Fowler..

  2. A big, big birdie!published at 14:40 British Summer Time 21 July 2019

Shane Lowry has a putt here for birdie and as Tommy Fleetwood has just missed his birdie look this is a big, big play.

It's maybe eight feet after a sumptuous second shot. This could put one hand on the Claret Jug. Off it rolls... inside the left edge... YES.

    THE LEAD IS FIVE!

    Koepka -5 (4)

OK, so three posts ago I used an image of Brooks Koepka's chaotic shot tracker.

He's just stepped up on the fifth and smashed one down the par four which is sat five feet from the flag for an eagle chance.

He has a look at the big bird while I take on some humble pie.

The atmosphere cranks up here as Lowry puts the ball within 10 feet of the flag.

  6. What a strike...published at 14:35 British Summer Time 21 July 2019

    Lowry -15 (3) Fleetwood -11 (3)

What a shot from Sir Shane of Lowry.

Draws his ball in on the fourth, the roar tells him all he needs to know as it comes to rest six feet from the flag. Stunning.

What have you got Tommy Fleetwood? It's good but it's not the one... 20ft left for birdie.

  7. Bogey!published at 14:33 British Summer Time 21 July 2019

    Koepka -5 (4) Holmes -7 (4)

"Alexa, paint me Brooks Koepka's shot tracker for these opening four holes."

Bogey-bogey-bogey-bogey. I can only assume he's stayed up late watching Tin Cup or Happy Gilmore.

JB Holmes makes bogey on four alongside him and the challenge of these two Americans has fallen away at a colossal pace.

  8. Westwood tracking Fleetwoodpublished at 14:30 British Summer Time 21 July 2019

    Westwood -10 (5), Willett -8 (5)

The wind is in Lee Westwood's sails - with a stiff breeze behind him, he is just a couple of feet short of the par-four fifth green with his tee shot. His eagle attempt is short, but a short birdie puts him just one shot behind Tommy Fleetwood

Playing partner Danny Willett also gets some distance, but finds some thick stuff on the slope above a bunker on the right. He recovers well and saves par.

This is drama of a different kind.

Yesterday was moving day. Today is hang on for dear life day.

I can only assume Brooks Koepka is being put off his game by the vivid nature of his own shirt. Another bizarre whack on four gets the "fore right" screams out.

To the third green where Shane Lowry makes par but Tommy Fleetwood shunts his putt wide for the same score.

    Bogey.

    THE LEAD IS FOUR AGAIN.

  11. Fowler on the charge?published at 14:25 British Summer Time 21 July 2019

    Fowler -9 (4)

Memories of that double bogey start are fading for Rickie Fowler, who now has birdied at two, three and four. His putt at the latter starts right then curls down to drop in nicely.

  12. Lowry loves this holepublished at 14:24 British Summer Time 21 July 2019

There are three holes that Lowry has birdied all three days this week. The third, fifth and 10th.

The rain is coming. The camera lense is wet. Settle in for some carnage.

That crash noise you just heard outside your front window was Brooks Koepka's Open hopes.

    Bogey-bogey-bogey start.

Ah well, he has a few majors already.

  16. Tommy's chance slides away...published at 14:16 British Summer Time 21 July 2019

    Fleetwood -12 (2) Lowry -15 (2)

    "Go on... go on.... oohhaaahhhh."

That's the shout as Shane Lowry misses his birdie putt on two, it's a par.

Now, Tommy Fleetwood pulled one shot back on one, can he get another here. It's around 12ft and it's the same line as Lowry had.

He's taking his time, he knows it's big, these are the moments that matter in these majors that are so, so hard to win. He sends it... it's never in. It slides away like Oasis in their prime.

    Lowry -15 (1) Fleetwood -12 (1)

Tommy Fleetwood from 198 yards on the second... third shot on this par five... beautiful. Around 15ft left for birdie but that was wonderfully judged, using the contours of this green expertly. Shane Lowry is better placed on the fairway but ends up outside Fleetwood's ball. Lowry will putt first and Fleetwood will get to see the line of his putt...

Tommy Fleetwood has looked nothing but focused all week. He’s been calm, composed - not getting too high when the birdies were dropping, not getting frustrated when things have been tricky. It was exactly the same vibe as he played his second shot from the dandelion-scattered rough at two - a quick consultation with his caddie, before setting about his routine.

  19. Fowler fights back, Rose slips backpublished at 14:09 British Summer Time 21 July 2019

Rickie had a bad start with an out-of-bounds effort off the first tee, but two straight birdies at two and three may have eased his pain a bit.

But Justin Rose drops his first shot of the day at three, sliding a par putt from about 12 feet to the left.

Portrush head professional Gary McNeill: "They have to avoid bunkers and rough off the tee. It gets quite narrow because there is a new bunker on the left around 300 yards from the championship tee. The driving line is just to the right of that. There are three bunkers on the right as well. But if the fairway is found, the green is within reach. There are plenty of tricky undulations short and left of the green."
