And that my friends, is that.

    What a week.

We had you sending us images of some crazy bunkers on Thursday, we've had you sending in pictures of dodgy golf clobber and all the while the drama on the links has been gripping, just as we all knew it would be.

A runaway winner but a first-time winner, which is always nice to see.

Shane Lowry, the Claret Jug and this golfing day belong to you. Click here if you want to read all about it.

And to those who followed this live text, tweeted us or listened to the radio commentary, thanks for making it a blast to be a part of.

    We'll catch you soon.

There'll be an Iain Carter column going up in the morning and in the next few hours we'll have quotes pieces and colour pieces being published. So stay across the golf page if you want more analysis from this chaotic week.

  3. 'A mountain too high'published at 19:11 British Summer Time 21 July 2019

    Fleetwood finishes second

Tommy Fleetwood speaks to Sky Sports: "The best consolation is how well Shane did and played. It hurts, it is sore at the moment, but I finished six shots back but it feels closer. It was Shane’s time, Shane’s week, fair play.

"I played well early on, but margins – the putts on one, two and three, I scrambled a bit and missed a short one on 10. It was nice to still be in The Open with six or seven to go.

"It was an amazing atmosphere. But the mountain was too high to climb. You have to stay in it, but it was not to be.

"I felt like I had a chance, and especially after the first I thought I had a chance. You never know what this game will give you and I am so happy to finish to so high in a major. I will take the positives from this. It’s a little bit upsetting to see everyone when you come in, but it's only golf, I’ll be fine."

  4. Fleetwood dejected...published at 19:07 British Summer Time 21 July 2019

Tommy Fleetwood is about to do media and the normally chipper character looks dejected.

It must be so hard to go close in these events. They are so hard to win and when you miss a chance it must sting badly.

"I hope it's just a matter of time," he says.

"it's a bit upsetting seeing everyone when you come in but it's only golf, I'll be fine."

    More coming from Tommy next.

    Lowry wins The Open

Shane Lowry is doing more media, microphone in one hand, Claret Jug in the other.

Ireland's first major champion since Padraig Harrington in 2008.

He tells Sky Sports: "I couldn't believe it was me tapping in to win The Open. My caddie, what can I say, he has been great for me over the last year and I owe quite a lot to him. My wife and baby, it doesn't get any more special than that. My wife knew it would either be huge joy or a big down but it was nice to have her there.

"I'm a good friend of Tommy's and I'm sure he will have his day as well."

  7. 'There's only one Shane Lowry...'published at 18:56 British Summer Time 21 July 2019

What a cracking tournament and what a deserving winner. That incredible round yesterday gave Shane Lowry the foundation he needed to get it done and win that first major.

There were stories we have now almost forgotten, Rory McIlroy's slump and rally, Tiger Woods' struggles, David Duval's 14 on a single hole. A classic major week. Man I love the majors and the story that builds as the days roll on.

Shane Lowry talks to Sky Sports: "I suppose I talked to my caddie Bo a lot today, I said 'I cannot stop thinking about winning, holding the claret jug'. He just said, 'stay focused', and what a job he did today. I cannot wait to wake up tomorrow and feel what it feels like it is phenomenal."

    Lowry wins The Open

Shane Lowry addresses those around the 18th green at Royal Portrush: "To have an event like this at this place, on the island of Ireland, at one of my favourite places is just great. My coach Neil, caddie Bo, my management I definitely wouldn’t be standing here without them.

"My family, what can I say…my Mum and Dad - they sacrificed so much for me when I was young and I am so happy I can hand them this trophy tonight.

"To have my wife and Iris here tonight is extra special, and to all the volunteers and all the fans – this one’s for you!"

Knowing how hard he's worked, knowing the type of person he is, knowing the family he comes from and knowing what this means to the whole of Ireland, it's very hard not to get emotional. And I'm sorry.
