    Garcia -3 (17)

    Uh oh...

Sergio Garcia is in the bunker on the 18th. Not how you want to finish the day.

    Koepka set to tee off...

On the first tee a certain Brooks Koepka, the man looking to become the fourth player to win five or more majors before turning 30 and first to finish first or second in all four majors in a single year.

Brooks loves a major. Here we go....

  3. Another bogey for Beefpublished at 12:59 British Summer Time 18 July 2019

    Johnston +2 (15)

Beef Johnston has taken a bit of a dip on the back nine (in form, he's not in the sea or anything).

Three bogeys on the past four holes leave the Englishman on +2.

    Lowry -4 (F)

Ireland's Shane Lowry has been speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live about his round: "I'm very happy with my day's work. I was a little anxious and nervous this morning. I gave myself lots of chances and then didn't hole anything but then had a couple of good pars saves late on.

"There's a home crowd with lots of expectation and the stands are packed with everyone applauding you onto every tee, and there's nowhere in the world you'd rather be. But there's a lot of work to do until Sunday.

"I'm quietly confident. But no matter what score I shot today, I know I've got to go and do it again tomorrow."

    Fleetwood, Thomas, Olesen

    Here we go then.

Justin Thomas tees off first as the rain comes down. The American looks confident and his shot is straight down the centre.

Tommy Fleetwood appears to be wearing some sort of rain-proof jumper. So fashion. His shot is just as nice and goes a little bit further.

  6. Simpson bogies 17published at 12:54 British Summer Time 18 July 2019

    Simpson -4 (17)

    Man down!

Webb Simpson pings back into the chasing pack as he takes a bogey on the par-four 17th.

It could have been worse for the American who had his machete out to chase his approach.

A four-way tie for the lead now with Shane Lowry (clubhouse), Dylan Frittelli (16) and Kevin Kisner (8).

    McIlroy +3 (9) Casey -1 (9)

Roars from the galleries at the ninth hole as Rory McIlroy puts away a 20 footer for his birdie. He makes the turn at three over and deserves some praise for sticking in there when the going got tough.

Paul Casey has a shorter putt and can move into red numbers here. Sends it...breaks left to right... drops. Cracking.

No prizes for guessing who this fan will be following today...

No, Tommy Fleetwood won’t be strutting his stuff at Goodison Park next season but the Toffees supporter did stop to sign autographs, and a couple of Everton shirts, during Monday’s practice round.

    Garcia -3 (17)

Sergio Garcia is trying to shave a shot or two off before he heads into the clubhouse.

The Spaniard's birdie putt on the 17th is just off target, though. And the 18th isn't the friendliest hole...

  10. McDowell on 13published at 12:51 British Summer Time 18 July 2019

    McDowell -2 (12)

Graeme McDowell over his tee-shot on the 200-yard par-three 13th.

"Go right any time you like," he shouts after the ball as it stubbornly refuses to fade back onto the trajectory he wants.

It hops onto a ridge just outside the bunker though.

    Got a little lucky there.

  11. Better from Rory...published at 12:48 British Summer Time 18 July 2019

    McIlroy +4 (8)

Rory McIlroy has around 140 yards left on the ninth and he's solid, into the green, leaving 15-20ft for birdie.

Hats off to him, he's not let the terrible start overwhelm him.

    Lowry -4 (F)

    Steven Gallacher
European Tour player & BBC Radio 5 Live pundit

He'll go and have a nice lunch now and perhaps watch the weather coming in. He's up near the top of the leaderboard and I think he's going to stay there until the end of the day.

He got a bit of luck on the 17th and turned what could have been a six, into a four, and that could prove crucial come Sunday.

  13. Lowry in for 67published at 12:46 British Summer Time 18 July 2019

    Lowry -4 (F)

    Phew.

Shane Lowry manages to finish well in the end as his par putt drops into the hole.

A great start at Royal Portrush for him.

  14. Par for McDowell on 12published at 12:44 British Summer Time 18 July 2019

    McDowell -2 (12)

Graeme McDowell with a birdie shot at 12.

Well, he was not going to die wondering on that one.

A decent bit of tap sends the ball up, but not in, and past by five feet or so.

Can he make it back for par. He can.

  15. What a shot!published at 12:44 British Summer Time 18 July 2019

    Kisner -4 (8)

Kevin Kisner just putted from the Isle of Man, over water, across air space and into the cup on the eighth green.

    What a birdie, four under.

    Lowry -4 (17)

What’s the opposite of finishing on a high? Finishing on a low?

Whatever it is, Shane Lowry is threatening to do it.

The Irishman cocks his head and squints as his approach flies towards a bunker on the right. It just misses – Lowry has had a few lucky breaks over the last couple of holes.

His chip on lands well and the 32-year-old might still be able to finish on a par.

  17. Dylan on formpublished at 12:43 British Summer Time 18 July 2019

    Frittelli -4 (15)

South Africa's Dylan Frittelli is putting together a lovely card. It's bogey-free and with four birdies he is in the mix.

Don't rule him out as someone just having a good day. The 29-year-old won the John Deere Classic on the PGA Tour last week so he knows how to get it done.

A few players now like Gary Woodland (+1), Adam Scott (+2) and Padraig Harrington (+4) are slipping down the leaderboard.

Frittelli meanwhile adds another birdie on 15 - that's four under and one off the lead.

Now that Frittelli is in my mind, anyone remember The Fratellis?

  18. Watch Grillo's hole-in-onepublished at 12:38 British Summer Time 18 July 2019

There have been a few high scores already this morning but Argentina's Emiliano Grillo had the perfect hole on the 13th...

    Molinari +2 (8)

Francesco Molinari is clearly undisturbed by his double bogey on the eigth.

His second shot is straight as an arrow and lines the defending champion up nicely for a birdie chance on the ninth.

  20. 'Practice rounds are boring'published at 12:37 British Summer Time 18 July 2019

    Pepperell -1 (F)

Here's Eddie Pepperell talking to BBC Radio 5 Live: "It was a solid start but I'm a little disappointed.

"It's my first time playing the course, so to shoot under par is OK.

"I haven't played the course. I walked 13 holes yesterday but the weather was awful so we came in. This course is all in front of you off the tee. I'm not one to spend lots of time to practice. I find practice rounds incredibly boring."
