AP McCoy's rival and pal Ruby Walsh gave the 18-time champion a hearty pat on the back after his first 2014 Cheltenham Festival win on Taquin Du Seuil. Taquin Du Seuil was McCoy's 30th Cheltenham Festival career triumph and 199th win of the 2013-14 jump racing season.

If In Doubt is the second favourite and finished half-a-length behind stablemate Fingal Bay last time out. He does prefer the softer ground though, so that might be a factor if you're considering backing him.

There is also plenty of interest in If In Doubt, Jetson, Josies Orders and Grand Vision, although there are 23 runners in the Pertemps Network Final so it is particularly difficult to pick a winner from this next race.

Onwards and upwards, then. Our next race is the Pertemps Network Final at 14:05, with Fingal Bay the favourite. After being missing for 14 months with a tendon injury, he beat a decent field on his return at Exeter last month. Richard Johnson is in the saddle.

"It's like a rugby player who takes a contact injury all the time. As a jockey you can hide your injury, you just have to bear the pain."

Taquin Du Seuil's jockey AP McCoy, who sustained a back injury on the second day of the Festival: "It hurts a lot, I was up in the night, I was not sure if I would ride. But I felt if I managed myself right I could get through it. However sore I feel now I would have felt a lot worse watching someone else win this."

That was a superb race to get us up and running. The plucky Uxizandre led from virtually the first fence and looked to be powering to victory until he was reeled in by Taquin Du Seuil to his right and was pipped at the post.

Former jockey Luke Harvey: "AP's probably the greatest jump jockey we'll ever see. He needed that. He was limping coming in but he's a winner, he doesn't like finishing second. That's why he comes to the Festival."

Taquin Du Seuil's trainer Jonjo O'Neill: "That was brilliant. He ran a great race and we are very pleased to have AP McCoy as his jockey. I rode him over the last two! If you don't get that kick out of it you shouldn't be doing it. Great for AP too, he's been quite cool all week."
