It was never as comfortable as the odds suggested it would be.

But Buveur D'Air holds off the challenge of Melon to secure a second successive Champion Hurdle victory. A big dent in the bookies' bags.

Wicklow Brave will like the ground and has big-race experience from the Melbourne Cup in 2016.

Elgin landed a big handicap win here in November and came home first at Wincanton on soft ground last month.

But they are all playing catch-up to Buveur d'Air.

Faugheen was the 2015 winner in this race, but he has found it hard going since. There are still a few backers on the course though hoping he can recover the old magic.

He is down from 11-2 to 9-2.

    BBC Radio 5 live

Tom Scudamore on the atmosphere in the weighing room: I try and close myself off. You've done everything you can until that point. You need to make sure the race is run to suit you. The thing I find a great help is watching past races. It's amazing to see how the winning horses come from the same sorts of positions year on year.

    Champion Hurdle (15:30 GMT)

There are few cracks in Buveur D'Air's CV.

Three wins out of three this season, a nine-race winning streak in total and good form over soft ground.

And, of course, the defending champion in the race.

Trainer Nicky Henderson has got to be confident.

And so to the big one.

With doubts over whether the 2015 winner Faugheen can recover his old form, last year’s winner Buveur D’Air has been a warm favourite to follow up in the Champion Hurdle (15:30).

His Nicky Henderson stablemate My Tent Or Yours - a runner-up in the race three times before - was withdrawn on veterinary advice on Tuesday morning.

Supplementary entry Elgin, trained by Alan King, is an interesting outsider.
