Lil Rockerfellar is keeping in touch with Flooring Porter, with Younevercall. Paisley Park is biding his time in the pack.

    Stayers' Hurdle (15:05)

Paisley Park is the 9-4 favourite. Will connections be partying like it is Twen-ty nine-te-en?

Andrew Gemmell is already wearing his gladrags by the look of it. Sat at home, with a camera watching his reaction, he's wearing a funky shirt which Prince would have been proud of.

The horses are a long way back but are walking forward...

    Stayers' Hurdle (15:05)

Paisley Park's owner Andrew Gemmell on 5 Live Sports Extra: "1973 was the first Festival I came to so it is strange not to be here this year.

"Last year, things went wrong but it was in his first race this year that he looked like he was back.

"I was more nervous about that one than any other we had. I don't think any of us knew what to expect.

"He was on the gallops last week and looked in great form. He's in good nick."

Ahhh my heart is feeling warm and fuzzy again. Just like it did when Paisley Park won in 2019. Wonderful horse, wonderful owner.

Caught up with Paisley Park's owner Andrew Gemmell on the phone this morning as he counts down to his beloved horse's bid to regain the Stayers' Hurdle trophy.

"We are hopeful, and think he can win. I'm so nervous," admitted Gemmell, who has been blind from birth and will be following BBC radio commentary from home.

Gemmell is an avid music lover who has been to more than 100 Elvis Costello concerts.

The 2019 winner Paisley Park, named after Prince's recording studio, was seventh last year and has recovered from a heart scare.

"As long as he comes back safe and sound, that's all I want," said Gemmell.

    Stayers' Hurdle (15:05)

Twelve months ago, defending champion Paisley Park disappointed in this race.

But after the diagnosis of and treatment for a fibrillating heart, Emma Lavelle's charge is back again with two good performances this season and is hoping to regain his crown.

It would be a hugely popular victory but the likes of the Denise Foster-trained pair Sire Du Berlais and Fury Road could be big dangers.

And never rule out Lisnagar Oscar, the winner last year at 50-1 and who who won't be anywhere near that price this time.

While I don't wish to move on too quickly from Rachael Blackmore's success (we will undoubtedly return to that later), the races come thick and fast. And it's another cracking story in the next one...

  10. More success for Blackmorepublished at 14:55 Greenwich Mean Time 18 March 2021

    Frank Keogh

At this surreal Festival, with the crowds absent, I'm in the fortunate position of being able to watch right by the winning post.

Four times I've been there to congratulate Rachael Blackmore on winning rides (and yes the pictures are getting worse - it's been a long week!)

Her response is always the same - 'Thank you, thank you.'

The 31-year-old is riding out of her skin but keeps the same level-headed air. A quiet, talented, detemined trailblazer.

Four winners for Rachael Blackmore this week. And all in Grade One races.

Will she finish as the top jockey this week? Thumbs up for yes, thumbs down for no...

That is the best performance by Allaho that I've seen.

He was awesome but Rachael was brilliant. She is having a week she will never forget.

As soon as she got him where he wanted, they winged the third last and it was plain sailing after that.

Very self-effacing from Rachael Blackmore, who makes a heart with her fingers at a television camera as she heads to the winners' enclosure.

If she wants to remain modest (an excellent trait, of course), let us big up her brilliance this week...

    Allaho wins the Ryanair Chase

Winning jockey Rachael Blackmore, speaking to ITV Racing, after another victory this week with Allaho: "Incredible. For a jockey getting legged up on these kind of horses, Willie Mullins and Henry de Bromhead, they know their jobs. It is fantastic.

"He was jumping and travelling, he is a real galloper and that's how I rode him. It was either going to work or not - and it worked.

"It is thrilling for everyone, it is an unbelievable position."

Asked if she is a more intelligent rider than everyone else: "I'm a hell of a lot luckier!"

Kalashnikov was the only other horse to finish there, by the way. Worth a mention of Mister Fisher though, so close to an excellent race - in spite of some suspect jumping.

She got him into a great rhythm and he has taken this Ryanair field apart.

Once she got the uncontested lead, she could give Allaho a breather and get some great jumps on the back straight.

From the top of the hill it was going to be difficult for the others.

    That was very good
