It's Grand National day, and anticipation is high, with a crowd of 70,000 expected at Aintree Racecourse.

  2. 'Corach looks fantastic'published at 12:59 British Summer Time 13 April

    Grand National (16:00 BST)

Trainer of Corach Rambler, Lucinda Russell, speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live: "I should be quite relaxed now. Corach looks fantastic and he has the same feeling as I do at this place. He takes in the atmosphere at Aintree. In my world, Corach is a legend. He's a year older and he looks even fitter and tighter. He's become quite a hard horse and he's very focussed.

"We've been tapering his work. He's a fabulous horse and we're so honoured to have him. Corach in the time up to the National eats everything, he's like a marathon runner loading. He showed last year he loves the fences and he stays the trip. He should be favourite, he just needs a bit of luck now.

"I was worried about Limerick Lace during the week when the ground was a little bit softer. I'm just all about Corach."

  4. Chambard and Run Wild Fred to miss Grand Nationalpublished at 12:56 British Summer Time 13 April

    Frank Keogh
    BBC Sport at Aintree

Last year's winner Corach Rambler heads runners for the Grand National, but there were two withdrawals - Chambard and Run Wild Fred - on Saturday morning.

A maximum field of 34 had been declared for the Aintree race, with the limit cut from 40 following a safety review, but now only 32 are set to line up.

Chambard, trained by Venetia Williams, and Gordon Elliott's Run Wild Fred are lame and were pulled out.

It means there are only seven British contenders and 25 Irish-trained runners - with eight for Willie Mullins and seven for Gordon Elliott.

The field and their jockeys have to complete two laps of the course, covering four-and-a-quarter miles and jumping 30 fences.

The Chair is the tallest of the 16 fences at 5ft 2in but along with the Water Jump only features on the first lap.

The 14 other fences, which include Becher's Brook, Canal Turn and Valentine's Brook, are jumped twice.

The course takes roughly between nine and 11 minutes to complete, depending on the conditions on the day.
