The late withdrawal of Sire Du Berlais, who had been chasing a third win in this race has opened the door for Flooring Porter.

Gavin Cromwell's horse has been placed in the last two runnings and comes to Aintree having finished second to Teahupoo in the Stayers Hurdle at Cheltenham after going chasing for the early part of the season.

Hiddenvalley Lake, trained by Henry de Bromhead and ridden by Rachael Blackmore, is one with real chances.

An interesting contender is Hewick who returns to hurdles after he won the King George Chase at Kempton in December but missed the Cheltenham Festival because of the ground conditions.

The selection in our guide ran well last year and finished runner-up to Corach Rambler. Is 9lb better off with that rival this time. Likely to be ridden more prominently after finishing fast but being unable to catch the leader in 2023. Was well beaten in second by I Am Maximus in the Bobbyjo Chase at Fairyhouse last time out.

1 Vanillier; 2 Mahler Mission; 3 Corach Rambler; 4 Minella Indo.

Vanillier jumped well behind Corach Rambler last year and is better weighted than that rival this time. His Irish trainer has an exceptional record with horses he sends over to race in Britain.

  18. An Aintree legend - The 2019 Nationalpublished at 14:50 British Summer Time 13 April

Five years ago, Tiger Roll created history at Aintree by winning his second Grand National, becoming the first horse since Red Rum in 1974 to win back-to-back races.

The 4-1 shot, ridden by Davy Russell and trained by Gordon Elliott was the first favourite to win the race since Comply or Die in 2008.

Tiger Roll might not have been the biggest horse, but he showed plenty of grit around the Aintree fences to win by lengths from the 66-1 chance Magic of Light with Rathvinden third.

The cancellation of the 2020 race because of Covid denied him the chance of three successive wins and he was withdrawn from the 2021 running after connections decided not to run under an “unfair weight” but he remains an Aintree legend.

Her form may already be enough, but this marathon distance could bring out the best in Limerick Lace, a solid jumper who is improving fast.
