    Q1: Australia 8-13 England

A bit early for a change with England going so well but Layla Guscoth has come off and Funmi Fadoju is on.

Is that to just get some information to Guscoth and then she can come back on? Doesn't look like an injury to the goal defence.

    Q1: Australia 7-12 England

Oh, Imogen Allison. She reads the game so well and snatches the ball right from Liz Watson's grasp.

Lovely long ball in to Eleanor Cardwell and she misses the first attempt but rescues it on one foot for Helen Housby to take the shot instead.

    Q1: Australia 7-9 England

A feature of England's tournament so far has been slow starts. Not so much here.

A miss from Steph Wood and Layla Guscoth is all over it but it's given away in the mid-court again and Cara Koenen makes no mistake.

    Q1: Australia 4-7 England

Nat Metcalf and Ash Brazill are absolutely glued together. Brazill gets the tip but it's wasted as Australia throw it straight to the hands of Laura Malcolm.

She says thank you very much and sends it to Eleanor Cardwell to reward under the post.

The stats aren't in England's favour, but psychologically the fact that England have beaten Australia before, they will be taking that forward.

They know what they need to do, it is just whether they can consistently nail those targets that they have set for themselves.

    Q1: Australia 3-6 England

First turnover and it's in England's favour.

Liz Watson was offside, surely there aren't nerves in the Aussie camp?

    Q1: Australia 2-3 England

Some of the match-ups here to keep an eye on...

I am so intrigued to see the Australian defence against England's shooters.

Shooters Helen Housby and Eleanor Cardwell and defenders Courtney Bruce and Jo Weston all know each other very well from playing against each other in the Super Netball league in Australia.

    Should be very interesting.

  8. 'We're at the business end of the competition'published at 08:11 British Summer Time 3 August 2023

    Jodie Gibson
England defender speaking on BBC TV

Both teams will want to win. They are building into the semi-finals, and possibly the final.

It's the business end of the competition. England have had a slow start in the previous games so they need to go out strong today.

They can't afford to go behind against a team like Australia, so they are going to want a more clinical performance from the start.

Australia will want to continue as they have been doing this week. They've played some fantastic netball.

    Q1: Australia 0-1 England

Away we go then in this huge match!

Oops, bit of excitement early doors from Courtney Bruce who was that keen to get started she's penalised for infringement.

Easy one for England's first goal on the board.

  10. Wales hopes of top-eight finish overpublished at 08:10 British Summer Time 3 August 2023

Wales v Uganda at Netball World CupImage source, Getty Images

Disappointing news for Wales on Wednesday.

Their hopes of a top-eight placing at the World Cup are over after defeat by Uganda in Cape Town.

The Welsh Feathers must now beat their final Group G opponents Trinidad and Tobago later today to compete for either a 9th or 10th final placing.

If Wales lose, they will face an 11th-12th place play-off instead.

Their sole win of the tournament so far came against Sri Lanka, while Uganda have won three matches, with this their first World Cup win over Wales.

  11. South Africa's last second buzzer-beater secures NZ drawpublished at 08:09 British Summer Time 3 August 2023

Well what a match we had yesterday between hosts South Africa and New Zealand.

Both sides are bidding for a semi-final spot and contested a 48-48 draw on Wednesday as Phumza Maweni's late intercept with seconds on the clock secured them the result.

So what needs to happen now for either team to reach the semis?

For South Africa to progress, they would need to beat Uganda by a heavy scoreline and hope New Zealand lose to Jamaica. New Zealand will progress with a win or a draw on Thursday.

Have a watch of that moment here.

Netball World Cup 2023: England coach Jess Thirlby praises 'dynamic' Roses

England head coach Jess Thirlby was full of confidence in her side after their win over Fiji.

She spoke to BBC TV about where she thinks the side are in terms of their World Cup journey.

"I think we are in a good place. We are not getting carried away. We just need to quietly go about our business," she said.

"There is a nice quite confidence in the group, and I think tonight is a good step in the right direction.

"Irrelevant of who the opposition are, we have stayed true to our Roses way, and I think we are in a really healthy place both away from the court and on it."

Imogen Allison was an injury replacement selection for last year's Commonwealth Games, so she wasn't selected to go in the first instance. But since then she has gone from strength to strength.

Domestically playing for Team Bath, she is a real stalwart for that team.

She is just growing - it is almost like the international court is her playground. She is such a strong possession winner for England, and also her transition through court into attack, she is really good at that as well.

  16. Australia team news - Bruce and Weston startpublished at 08:02 British Summer Time 3 August 2023

    Australia v England (08:00 BST)

For Australia, it's also an unchanged starting seven from their match against Malawi.

Jo Weston and Courtney Bruce are the solid defensive pair with Steph Wood and Cara Koenen the duo at the other end.

Ash Brazill is in at wing defence while Paige Hadley is favoured over Jamie-Lee Price at centre and captain Liz Watson is at wing attack.

Sophie Garbin, a controversial selection before the tournament, is on the bench despite being the top goal scorer at the World Cup so far.

Starting seven: GK - Bruce, GD - Weston, WD - Brazill, C - Hadley, WA - Watson, GA - Wood, GS - Koenen

Substitutes: Price, Garbin, Aryang, Austin, Klau

Australia are a team that gel as a unit really quickly. You have to try and break those connections that just come so naturally to them.

Having a good gameplan is essential, but also sticking to it. England need to highlight some key players to target and try and create that disconnect.

Consistently doing the basics - you don't have to do them brilliantly but do them well, all the time.

  18. Australia's unfinished businesspublished at 07:58 British Summer Time 3 August 2023

    Australia v England (08:00 BST)

So far both England and Australia have cruised through their matches with five wins from five.

That's all set to change today, though.

Australia's motto at this World Cup has been 'unfinished business' as they strive to win back both the Commonwealth and world titles.

After losing out to England on the Gold Coast in 2018 they secured Commonwealth gold last year in Birmingham and now, they're in pursuit of a 12th World Cup title after New Zealand won it four years ago.

They have also dominated England since that Commonwealth final - the Roses have won just one of their nine encounters in the five years since, losing seven and drawing one.

  19. 'England will need more options against Australia'published at 07:56 British Summer Time 3 August 2023

You could see in the attacking third that as one player caught the ball, another player was then starting their move, but only one player.

Against Australia that one player is going to be covered, so you need two or three other options available.

In the game against Fiji, England weren’t tested enough to have to do that, so it is great that they were playing freely and smoothly, and were able to just make one move to be free and receive the pass, but that isn’t going to be the case coming up [against other top sides].

  20. Team news - Malcolm starts, Fadoju on benchpublished at 07:54 British Summer Time 3 August 2023

    Australia v England (08:00 BST)

    Here we go then...

Head coach Jess Thirlby sticks with the same seven she began with in the match against Fiji. As we mentioned then, this seems like the type of settled seven we would expect to see from the Roses.

Geva Mentor and Layla Guscoth provide that solid defensive duo with shooting partnership Eleanor Cardwell and Helen Housby out in front.

Nat Metcalf is at wing attack with Imogen Allison, who has been in fine form, at centre and Laura Malcolm in at wing defence.

As we have seen so far this tournament Thirlby likes to make changes and put her trust in all 12 of her players with each one offering something different.

We have seen impact off the bench from Liv Tchine and of course the ageless Jade Clarke.

What do you think of that folks?

Starting seven: GK - Mentor, GD - Guscoth, WD - Malcolm, C - Allison, WA - Metcalf, GA - Housby, GS - Cardwell

Substitutes: Pitman, Fadoju, Clarke, Williams, Tchine
