Weather update, it's now lashing in the pits rather than drizzling.

With Saturday predicted to be a dry day of running, will Mervyn White be tempted to hold some racing back given the ever-worsening conditions?

  3. Irwin at the doublepublished at 17:32 British Summer Time 12 May 2022

He didn't enjoy Tuesday too much, but Glenn Irwin had more fun on Thursday morning.

The Carrickfergus rider took pole position for the Superbike and Superstock classes after switching to his British Superbike Fireblade.

Record wins holder Alastair Seeley was the fastest rider in the Supersport class ahead of Adam McLean.

  4. Wet, wet, wetpublished at 17:31 British Summer Time 12 May 2022

    Andy Gray
BBC Sport NI at the North West 200

There are few certainties in life, however rain at the North West 200 seems to be one of them.

While the end of qualifying was hit by a heavy shower at the back end of the circuit, all 8.7 miles of the Triangle Circuit are wet after constant drizzle in the two-hour window before racing.

There doesn't seem to be a lot of standing water, but the tarmac is certainly greasy and could throw up a surprise result or two once we get under way.

    North West 200

    Here we go, then.

We've danced the dance during practice and qualifying for a few days - and don't get me wrong, we've loved it - but now it's show time.

Our reporter Richard Petrie wrote from the paddock on Tuesday that the North West 200 has 'blasted back into action' this week after its two-year Covid-19-enforced absence. And blasted back it has.

The roads closed at 17:00 BST as the competition starts for real this evening, with three races taking place on the famous Triangle Circuit - and we'll keep you right up to date with all the action.

First up, starting at 17:45 BST, is the six-lap Supersport Race followed by the six-lap Superstocks at 18:30 and finishing with the four-lap Supertwin Race at 19:15.

We have you covered with a live stream of all the action and radio commentary as well. And, of course, stay online with us for live text commentary, clips and reaction from the paddock.

Competitive North West 200 action is back. You love to see it.

    Finally!

When the 2019 North West 200 drew to a close, little did we know it would be three years until we would see the international road race again.

After endless waiting, the first race day has arrived but first we have another practice session.

The roads closed at 09:15 and so far the weather is holding. Plenty of action to come, and if you'd like to have a look at some of those looking to become first time winners at this year's event, click here.
