  4. 'It's another one gone'published at 19:26 British Summer Time 15 July 2023

    FT: Dublin 1-17 Monaghan 0-13

A bit more from Monaghan's Kieran Hughes, speaking to BBC Sport:

"We spoke about it during the week that we needed goals. We had chances but didn't get any and you're not going to beat Dublin in an All-Ireland semi-final if you don't score any goals.

"It's disappointing. It's another one gone."

On Monaghan making it difficult for Dublin: "We don't really listen to outside noise. We've played them enough over the years. We know the players they have but we were confident.

"We knew we'd need to be at our best. I think they were a wee bit off it in the first half but they showed it in the last few minutes."

  5. Hughes 'proud' of Monaghan for sticking with Dublinpublished at 19:22 British Summer Time 15 July 2023

    FT: Dublin 1-17 Monaghan 0-13

Monaghan's Kieran Hughes, speaking to BBC Sport:

"That's the Dubs for you. You can stick with them for so long but they can blow you away in four or five minutes.

"We've seen that they've blown teams away in the third quarter but we were right in it. We stuck with them but we lost a few kick-outs and it got noisy and all of a sudden it was 0-15 to 0-12 and it was too far back.

"They controlled the game after that but that's sport for you. We're well aware. Very proud of the boys. Think Vinny got it spot on today with our energy and focus.

"Was that a seven-point game? Not for me."

  6. 'Monaghan can take optimism'published at 19:16 British Summer Time 15 July 2023

    FT: Dublin 1-17 Monaghan 0-13

    Mickey Harte
Louth manager & ex-Tyrone boss on BBC Sport

A brilliant game of football and such great credit to Monaghan and if ever a team didn't deserve to be beaten by that amount today, that team is Monaghan.

They can be very proud of themselves, they've done themselves and their province proud and it must give them a lot of optimism for the future. They put up such a fight today that no one could have possibly expected.

  7. 'We knew it was going down to the wire'published at 19:13 British Summer Time 15 July 2023

    FT: Dublin 1-17 Monaghan 0-13

Man of the match Cormac Costello, speaking to BBC Sport:

"The main thing is we won and we're delighted.

"The last couple of years have been tough but we've gotten over the line today and it's another step in the ladder.

"You look at our games against Monaghan in the past. We were under no illusions, we knew it was going to go down to the wire."

  8. McManus' last hurrah?published at 19:11 British Summer Time 15 July 2023

    FT: Dublin 1-17 Monaghan 0-13

    Oisin McConville
Armagh All-Ireland winner on BBC Sport

It's possibly the last we'll see Conor McManus with Monaghan. Hopefully not because the role he played this year he can continue to play, but there's obviously a huge amount of emotion there.

  9. 'Dublin players stepped up'published at 19:09 British Summer Time 15 July 2023

    FT: Dublin 1-17 Monaghan 0-13

    Michael Murphy
Former Donegal captain and All-Ireland winner on BBC Sport

    Monaghan gave it absolutely everything.

Monaghan were level at 0-12 0-12 after 59 minutes but Dublin outscored Monaghan 1-5 to 0-1 after that.

You want the big Dublin players to stand up. Mannion, Fenton, McCaffrey and Rock. They don't come much more experienced than that.

  10. Postpublished at 19:07 British Summer Time 15 July 2023

    FT: Dublin 1-17 Monaghan 0-13

It's a gutting result for Monaghan. They haven't been in an All-Ireland final since 1930 but their wait goes on.

As for Dublin, they will face the winners of Kerry v Derry on 30 July.

  11. 'Cruel finish for Monaghan'published at 19:06 British Summer Time 15 July 2023

    FT: Dublin 1-17 Monaghan 0-13

    Mickey Harte
Louth manager & ex-Tyrone boss on BBC Sport

That's a cruel, cruel finish for Monahan today.

Never mind the fact that they aren't going to win this game today, that score line will read in the future like they got a beating, they did not get a seven-point beating today.

They were much better value than that but that's the cruelty of this Dublin machine.

Dean Rock settles it and Dublin are heading for the All-Ireland final.

He's in acres of space. He rounds Beggan and needs a couple of attempts at it, but the ball ends up in the back of the net.

    Heartbreaking for Monaghan.

Dean Rock, who's just replaced Paul Mannion, taps over. Four in it.

  18. Fenton restores three-point leadpublished at 69 mins

    Dublin 0-16 Monaghan 0-13

A Dublin attack breaks down and Monaghan come away with it.

They need a score but, after an age in possession, McManus can't find a team-mate with his kick-pass.

McManus wanted a free. It wasn't forthcoming and it ultimately results in Brian Fenton stretching Dublin's lead to three.
