Disappointment for Down then but there's still Ulster interest at Croke Park today.

Can Monaghan beat Dublin and reach the All-Ireland Football final?

Throw-in's less than an hour away!

    FT: Down 0-14 Meath 2-13

Conor Laverty will arguably have mixed feelings about his first season as Down boss.

They narrowly missed out on promotion to Division Two, beat Donegal in the Ulster Championship and impressed in this competition only to fall at the final hurdle.

But this is a young Mourne team and Laverty will surely feel he's seen enough for them to kick on in 2024.

    FT: Down 0-14 Meath 2-13

Meath were deserving winners but this defeat will really hurt Conor Laverty and his Down side because of the realisation that they totally failed to do themselves justice.

They struggled for fluency throughout as they were unable to reproduce the brilliance they showed against Laois although they will look back on the goal chances missed by Ryan Johnston and Liam Kerr before half-time.

Down did have further goal opportunities in the second half with the Meath defence riding its luck on a number of occasion but ultimately the scoring of the two Jacks Flynn and O'Connor, who banged in the Royals' late goal, made the difference.

A big opportunity missed for Down as a place in the Sam Maguire Cup looks as far away as ever despite what looked like a promising first year in charge for Laverty for much of the campaign.

Down were undone by a superior Meath side it must be said.

The Royals had a number of impressive performers, none more so than Jack Flynn.

    FT: Down 0-14 Meath 2-13

Meath are the 2023 Tailteann Cup champions!

    It's heartache for Down.

Meath will be playing Sam Maguire football in 2024.

Meath's second half performance was exceptionally clinical.

Jack O'Connor and Jack Flynn brought the style in the second half and proved too much for Down.

    John Haughey
BBC Sport NI at Croke Park

Jack O'Connor and Jack Flynn are threatening to take this game away from Down by kicking Meath's last four scores. Down need a break or should I say a goal. They got eight of them against Laois the last eight. Just one might do today.

Pat Havern scores a free but Meath immediately respond through Jack Flynn who is proving to be a nightmare for this Down defence.
