The Derry and Tyrone fans got their first sight of each other on Craigavon Bridge in the queue to cross the choppy River Foyle.

Given the context to the latest chapter in this most enduring of rivalries, it's no surprise that supporters of both teams are out in force and were in situ several hours before throw-in.

Over 10,000 tickets were sold as of this morning and with late online sales, that could rise closer to the capacity of 12,000.

Hosts Derry have made one late change with Cormac Murphy replacing Declan Cassidy. Murphy may play inside with Ciaran McFaul coming out to centre half-forward.

Tyrone have made two late changes with captain Peter Harte ruled out of a game he would surely have loved to play in, with the opponents now managed by his uncle Mickey.

Not a bad replacement for him, though. His brother-in-law Ruairi Canavan starts in his place.

Aodhan Donaghy from Loughmacrory makes his league debut replacing Cormac Quinn, who picked up a knock late in last week's win over Roscommon.

Apart from that, Darren McCurry returns from a one-match ban for his first league appearance of 2024. Conn Kilpatrick is now serving a one-game suspension following his straight red against the Rossies.

    Derry: O Lynch; C McCluskey, C McKaigue, D Baker; C Doherty, G McKinless, P McGrogan; C Glass, B Rogers; E Doherty, C Murphy, P Cassidy; N Loughlin, S McGuigan, C McFaul

    And breathe Antrim fans!

Andy McEntee's side have held on for the victory, which sees them now sit with four points on the board after two games.

Following goals from Ronan Boyle and a Dominic McEnhill penalty, they raced out to a 2-5 to 1-2 lead.

Offaly gradually chipped away at Antrim's lead, but they ran out of time and Antrim held on by their fingernails to claim an important victory.

Not too many positives for Darren Gleeson and his players to take from this Allianz Hurling League opener in Thurels.

Limerick started with just four of their All-Ireland Final side from last July but apart from a promising first quarter, it was a day to forget for the Saffrons, as they conceded 37 scores on an early February day.

Gleeson will face a bit of a job in lifting his troops for next weekend's home game against Dublin.

As we feared, the second half is proving one-way traffic in Thurles as Shane O'Brien brings up his tally to 1-5 and Gearoid Hegarty also among the scorers. Antrim haven't managed a score since the restart as they toil against the wind.

    Limerick 1-19 Antrim 1-7

Antrim have just made the worst possible start to the second half as Thurles as Rory McCloskey, deep in his own defence, gifts possession to Gearoid Hegarty, who sets up Shane O'Brien to rifle to the net.

Three further quickfire Limerick points follow as it's all looking rather ominous for the Saffrons with more than 30 minutes still to play.

So far so good for Armagh in Division One and a good start for Donegal and Tyrone in Division Two, but work to do for Cavan as they trail Kildare at the break.

It hasn't been the most high scoring of halves, but there has been plenty of excitement with the net being rattled three times.
