    Fox-Pitt falters in cross-country

William Fox-Pitt saw his individual lead after the dressage disappear with a disappointing round in the cross-country, incurring time penalties on Chilli Morning.

"It’s obviously very disappointing," he said. "To be up there and cock it up is a blow. I hope he’s OK, life goes on. So far Team GB are not doing what we dreamt of."

Drinkhall's Croat opponent is making a fight of it though - he's pulled a game back and the Briton leads 3-2. It's the first to four to progress. I suggest you watch it here.

Hungary's Laszlo Cseh came second in the men's 200m butterfly fourth heat ahead of South Africa's Chad le Clos.

I think Laszlo looks the best. I really think he's one to watch probably more than Chad le Clos.

Defending champion Chad le Clos has finished a comfortable first in his heat.

Michael Phelps has finished third in the second heat, going at what could be described as a comfortable cruise. Both have qualified for tomorrow's semi-finals, where Phelps will be looking for his 20th Olympic gold.

Success breeds success. With the same support team at hand, it's possible to produce success year after year after year. It's interesting the Australians were very impressive in their heat and the Italians won their heat. This isn't done yet, there is a lot of hard work to do.

Meanwhile, Heather Watson has just got under way against Elina Svitolina of Ukraine.

The canoe slalom course is just epic in Deodoro and David Florence of Team GB is in epic form of his own.

After topping the heats in the men's C1 yesterday, both he and partner Richard Hounslow do the business in C2 this morning to progress through the heats in third.

Hounslow has stopped racing individually to give his all to this combination as he knows the potential it offers. He clearly has faith in Florence who talked him out of going into the forces in 2008 so they could work together. Into the semi-finals they go and they'll almost certainly make the final.

It's been a great couple of days on the white water of Rio for Team GB.

Fiona Pennie is sitting pretty at the top of the rankings in the first run of qualifying for the kayak slalom with a time of 100.52secs - still seven more paddlers to go though.

Dominant performance from the men's four after a strong start from the South African crew. Afterwards, there was time for a few waves to the GB fans from Constantine Louloudis, Moe Sbihi, George Nash and Alex Gregory, who laid down the hammer to brush aside their rivals.

I make that six victories for GB crews this session, with another second place meaning that all seven progress to their respective semis or final.

Only defending champion Kat Copeland and Charlotte Taylor struggled in the lightweight women's double. They finished fifth and face a repechage.

The tension on TV adventurer Steve Backshall's face during Great Britain's women's pair heat, as he watched fiance Helen Glover in action was palpable.

Their unbeaten record stretching back to 2011 was under serious threat by the Danish crew before Glover and rowing partner Heather Stanning produced a strong finish. Asked to sum up the experience as a spectator, Steve said it was "horrible." He added: "That's the closest race I've seen them involved in."

Only the semis and final to go now, Steve!
