    'He's a great champion'published at 04:10 British Summer Time 8 August 2016

    Del Potro beats Djokovic

It's always easy to praise an opponent when you've dumped them out of the Olympics but Juan Martin del Potro was full of praise for Novak Djokovic after beating him tonight.

He said: "He’s a great champion, a friend for a long time. I know how important this event was for him. He wanted the gold medal, but I also believe he knows about my effort.

"I talked to him all through my rehab. I’ll always be thankful for his words. We respect each other so much. It was a spectacular match from any point of view."

It's a historical moment for me to be here and watch Adam Peaty win gold 28 years after I won it.

  6. Jazz lights up the nightpublished at 04:08 British Summer Time 8 August 2016

What a smile. That's what a silver medal means to Jazz Carlin. And she has the 800m freestyle still to come...

    Carlin wins 400m freestyle silver

    Andy Jameson
BBC commentator and former British Olympic swimmer

What a night it has been. It wasn't a surprise that Adam Peaty won - it was more relief and joy that he did it so well - but Jazz Carlin's silver was a bit of surprise. She swam brilliantly. She did the best she could and deserves to be there receiving silver, having produced a lifetime best.

  8. Jazz gets her medalpublished at 04:04 British Summer Time 8 August 2016

Silver medalists come in two camps. Those who are made up to take home silverware and those who think they should have had gold.

Jazz Carlin is firmly in the first camp as she is adorned on the podium. Beaming from ear to ear.

Love this picture. Look how far Katie Ledecky won the 400m free by. She had time to turn around, take in the scoreboard and start celebrating before Jazz Carlin - in the red cap - even finished in second!

She won by 4.77 seconds. Amazing.

Phelps deserves gold for that swim. He's back on form and he's got some individual races where you wouldn't want to bet against him.

It's just like watching... Iraq. Brazil are unable to break down that not-so-great footballing nation.

The host side are still searching for their opening win of the Rio 2016 men's football competition after this embarrassing stalemate.

Led by Barcelona forward Neymar, Brazil could not find a way past their stubborn Group A rivals in Brasilia.

It is their second goalless draw of the tournament after another blank against South Africa on Thursday.

Iraq's players celebrate like they have won the World Cup. And why not.

"Day two of an eight-day meet and Adam and Jazz have performed out of this world. The team will be buzzing."
