    Adam Peaty wins gold

GB gold medalist and world record holder Adam Peaty:"It's so surreal to get Team GB's first gold. This is a product of seven years' work. I did it for my country. It means so much to me.

"My coach Mel Marshall is one of the best coaches in the world. She understands every athlete's need. she didn't need to get me pumped up. Down that last 50m I knew I was winning!"

Jazz Carlin couldn't have done any more. I am really impressed. She dealt with the first 100m really well when Katie Ledecky had a huge lead. She stuck to her own pace and then held off Smith.

    Women's 400m freestyle

American swimmer Katie Ledecky set a new Olympic record in the heats of the women's 400m freestyle - as Britain's Jazz Carlin qualified second fastest.

Ledecky won her heat in three minutes 58.71 seconds, just outside her world record time of 3:58.37.

Carlin's time of 4:02.83 was a personal best, as she reached the final, which takes place next.

Ledecky all the way? The 19-year-old could be one of the real stars of the Games. She won five golds at last year's world championships.
