If canoeing through white water wasn't terrifying enough, try doing it amid high winds.

David Florence, silver medallist at Beijing 2008, is up in the single slalom in around 20 minutes.

The event was delayed by an hour because of the gusty gusts.

    You can watch it here.

The blustery conditions could have a big impact on another sport in the next couple of hours... DIVING!

Unlike the swimming, the diving takes place in an open air venue - Maria Lenk Aquatic Park - and gusts in that sport can be catastrophic.

2004 Olympic silver medallist Leon Taylor tells me it will certainly make things "interesting" today, but he's pretty confident the conditions won't lead to a delay.

"Divers are used to competing outdoors so wind is nothing new, but it can actually have a bigger impact on springboard divers - like those competing today - than those who go from 10m.

"If you're blown slightly off track running down the springboard it can completely throw your dive, whereas on the 10m you're more in control as you're going off a solid platform."

The women's synchronised 3m springboard final, featuring English Commonwealth champions Becky Gallantree and Alicia Blagg - begins at 8pm BST.

Job done for Great Britain's James Guy. The world champion qualifies fifth fastest for the semi-finals tonight at 02:11 BST.

Fellow Brit Cam Kurle was fourth in heat two, but won't progress beyond this stage, having finished in 1 minute 49.08 seconds.

And how about this, the current Olympic champion - Yannick Agnel of France - is out too.

The race is in the climbs of the two laps of Circuito Grumari and Italian Girogia Bronzini and Dutch woman Ellen van Dijk are attacking off the front of the peloton and have been joined by Anna Plichta of Poland.

    It's stretched things somewhat.

Up the road is German Romy Kasper, who is trying to chase down race leader Lotte Kopecky of Belgium.

    There are 87.1km to go.

Argentine tennis star rescued by handballers

As if the prospect of taking on Novak Djokovic did not make his day hard enough, Juan Martin del Potro has already apparently spent 40 minutes stuck in a lift. Without a phone signal and stuck between floors, it seems he had to rely on the kindness of some passing Argentine handball players to escape his ordeal.

As Fede Pizarro tweeted: "A power cut and somebody trapped, the Gladiators arrived to rescue Juan Martin del potro."

    Women's road race

These cobbles will take their toll on Emma Pooley. She's pint-sized to say the least. I heard BBC Radio 5 live commentator Rob Hayles describe her as a "car air freshener" earlier.

The judder of the cobbles will be rattling her tiny frame, but she's a gritty one and will be grinding to stay in the group for her team-mate Lizzie Armitstead.

Supporting Lizzie Armitstead's tilt at gold will be Emma Pooley and Nikki Harris.

Two years ago Pooley quit cycling to concentrate on long-distance triathlon, but she returned to the sport in October.

Harris is the current British cyclo-cross champion and was fourth in last year's cyclo-cross world championships.

All three are in the peloton, but they're on the cobbles now, which will be interesting.

There's just no stopping GB fencer Richard Kruse today - either in competition or in the mixed-zone.

Kruse is through to his first Olympic quarter-final since his Games debut all the way back at Athens 2004 and is just two wins away from securing GB fencing their first Olympic medal for 52 years!

Kruse is so focused though that he isn't stopping for post-bout interviews while he's on this winning-streak. We'll let him off - so long as he wins something.

    Serena Williams 6-4 Daria Gavrilova

It’s the result we expected, but it didn’t quite go to plan for Serena.

After clinging on to her serve in the first game of the match, she actually was broken in her second service game.

Daria Gavrilova played some excellent tennis, coming to the net effectively, and playing some cracking passing shots.

However, the world number one was not to be kept out, and she took the first set to get her Olympic campaign underway.

    Men's 200m freestyle

The dust has just about settled on Saturday's men's 400m freestyle final, and Britain's James Guy is ready for his next event.

Guy led the majority of the final, but faded to eventually finish sixth.

The 200m freestyle should be a different proposition, though. Guy is the current world champion over that distance. He's off at 17:44 BST.

That was explosive stuff from Joshua Buatsi, he was hurting Katende from the very first punch, and you could see the Ugandan didn't want to be there in the end.

That's the first stoppage of the Olympics so far. I can't wait to see Buatsi in action again.

More of the same at the start of the third, Katende's only hope a knockout you'd think.

You don't often see this many hurtful, damaging punches in a three round fight - KATENDE IS DOWN!

The referee is counting - the towel is in! The fight is over!

Buatsi's put him down! No? The referee says Katende slipped, but a punch was definitely landed.

The Brit is really sinking some rights and lefts into the body and his opponent doesn't like it. Excellent stuff.

Total dominance, Buatsi controlling the tempo and landing hurtful punches, Katende saved by the bell a little towards the end.

10-8 to Joshua on two of the cards there, and he wins the other as well.

The wind has gathered momentum after a sunkissed start to the day. It's just like walking along Aberystwyth seafront. Flags are standing to full attention, bins can't stay upright and information signs have tumbled to the ground.

Play on the outside tennis courts has been delayed and spectators walking around the park feel as if they're in an F1 wind testing tunnel.

Great Britain's Georgia Davies has done enough to reach the semi-finals of the women's 100m backstroke.

She has finished third in her heat in a time of 59.86 seconds. That's slightly slower than her qualifying time of 59.64, but she still goes through seventh fastest overall.

The semi-finals get underway late, late, late tonight at 03:36 BST.

Straight away Buatsi throws left and right hooks, dominating, but oh! Keep your right hand high!

Katende is a bustling southpaw, and he whipped a right hand over Buatsi's guard there.

Better from the Londoner, landing a lovely short-arm left hook that shakes Katende's chin, and then a body shot to follow.

Yep, the Ugandan doesn't like them, keep digging those body shots in Joshua, and this fight is yours.

Good round. Do the judges agree? Yes they do, all three side with the Brit.
